Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

"The threat is stronger than the thing itself" - Don't fall for it.

Total psychological ploy by the senior leaders at this company. Seen it happen before, there is nothing new under the sun, plus I've read their playbook. LAYOFF RUMORS WERE PURPOSELY LEAKED.

Not what do they get out of this? They want to incite widespread fear through the company for months and weeks. Teams and divisions will be restructured and some people will be let go sure. Maybe even an acquisition, merger, or buyout. But most people will be back on their feet in a few months or so.

Now what about the people remaining? They work in MORE FEAR and are more willing to s--- up and accept lower pay and worse conditions, while the leadership and the protected groups laugh to the bank.

You are all being played, don't fall for it.

And for those who are living paycheck to paycheck, well it's you're own fault. Ever hear of an emergency fund?

3dzx - not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur or freelancer. Lots of downtime and lumpy income for consultants, and the majority of startup businesses fail. Would you take such a risk with your life savings? No. That’s why you’re working for PepsiCo.

What's the golden rule, kids? WORK FOR YOURSELF AND NOT A COMPANY. Always have your best interest in mind and forget kneeling for your corporate overlords. If you're getting slashed, well that's your bad, you forgot you were replaceable for less $.

I hope you're never in a position where divorce and medical debt eliminate that emergency fund.

I'm scared out of my mind.

Also to zbt, the company show about career development is just that complete theater. They don't care if they lose their best people, there's always another person in line.

Leadership is completely dysfunctional. I agree that they may want to make employees fear for their jobs so they can work more for less. The entire company is based upon fake efficiencies and paying people well below what they are worth. Scaring people is an o.k. strategy so that who is left will not be head strong. I think you can summarize Pepsi by saying the leadership is standing on a platform of horseshit.

You’re giving PepsiCo management way too much credit. Taking months to execute the layoffs while rumors leaked wasn’t an intentional thing. It just took them months to get their sh-- together. Meanwhile they were too blind to the fact that secrets never secret that long.

You said you have seen it happen before? Tell me specifically when? Spreading fear makes no sense if it encourages people to look for another job. You lose your best people that way. I’d rather line up another job and quit before getting any pink slip, and I know others at Pepsi who are looking around.
