Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Glimpse of the Real SF

With several companies giving out $1,000 bonuses due to tax reform, I wondered if SF would share this new wealth with everyone. Then the email came. Reading through the email I was patiently waiting for the credit to be given to tax reform. Reading and reading and was in shock that it was framed as a "gesture of appreciation".

SF was just handed millions in tax cuts but decided to frame the handout as appreciation to all SF employees? In the middle of many employees being targeted, laid off and ran out, that is cold and shameful. We all know that bonus would have never been given out if it wasn't for tax reform.

Everyone affected with the changes should use this as a reference. The moral compass of decision makers is lacking. The changes will be cold, calculated and based on any and all factors. This time around is the real deal. Seriously consider preparing for and expecting the worse. Don't be naive in believing that you are safe. If you are not an AVP or higher, you are not safe. This is not meant to scare you but to educate and motivate to prepare for the worst case scenario.

I liked the question in the opinion survey about the $1000 bonus. Did the bonus improve morale? Umm, no, it was confusing more thany anything! What did it mean to you and your family? Was this a serious question?

The only one here who sounds entitled is the idiot who seems to think he's entitled to hearing people who are in the process of being laid off spouting platitudes about a CEO and executives who have been doing nothing but ruining the company for many years now.

To whoever said State Farm doesn't get involved in politics, are you DAFT?

They have a habit of broadcasting political messages on the intercom throughout the entire Corporate Complex.

CEO is charged with turning around a company whose future has been neglected for decades. The whiny, entitled ranting out here shows it's the right thing to do - you've gotten too comfortable. You think SF owes you. Most companies would dismiss you with no notice and a 2 week severance check. Get over yourselves.

Don't be an idiot. If you work there you just received $1000. You're complaining? You know state farm doesn't get involved in politics one way or another. Enjoy your spending.

Not surprised. CEO will tear up when talking about needing security and off duty cops on site. (Wish we could have concealed carry but that's a separate topic) But does not seem to mind at all how local lives are ruined or how people who were encouraged to move are being laid off just a couple years later. BTW I'm sure it's a great gig for off duty work. More power to our men and women in blue.

So you think it’s going to be Bag-Nasty treat sacks for Founders Day this year? Or shall the Employee Opinion Survey indicate the top charity of our choice?

It’s a Celebration!

They're fond of doing stuff like this. I remember years ago we had a Vet in our office who was annoyed that the managers in our office tried to pass off some sort of government-mandated time off as a gift to veterans. I don't remember the details. I just remember that when he replied to the managers' email by pointing out that the "gift" was federally mandated, he found himself in trouble.

Asshats, the lot of them.

Yes, I agree. The fact they tried to steal the credit and act as if it was just a random kind gesture because they are such great people and they appreciate the workforce is down right insulting to all of our intelligence.

I'm happy the bonus was given out. It was the right thing to do but stealing the credit from the tax reform and using it to boost their image is pretty low.
