Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

No difference to me

Blows my mind any of these degree factories are still open, even with the sale. Nothing as changed, still a call center uncovering student concerns on why they don't want to start school in four days. Targeting to a demographic where it's assumed they have a GED or might as well be in default with the amount of unusual enrollment they've had is where the failure continues. Every one of the previous Edmc Pittsburgh locations has mutiple Ai online leadership, the same nazis that made the online division the bust that it was. I'm sure we'd love to see a change, but the rabbit fell too far down the hole to save this sinking ship.

At my campus they cram second quarter students in 2nd level classes. They systematically take out pre-requisites and everything that could prevent them to move students around from many of the classes curriculum.

They set up a dummy with a bow tie registering them anywhere they have room so they can fill the classes. This guy has no clue what the curriculum requires or what students needs to be proficient in before putting them in 2nd level classes.

" you can't take a class because it does not match your work schedule?" No problem! They will shove you in an another class, that has nothing to do with your degree... you need Spanish II to graduate? "We don't run that, how about another Sociology class instead?

What if You need and Advanced Pastry class/lab to finish your baking diploma? We don't have that this quarter, because...well... we have no full time faculty here. We can't run a class on another day of the week or at a different time..We only have adjuncts here, they are available only one or two specific days of the week... just take an operations management class instead, that is the same...

This happens every quarter

they are a bunch of crooks

Clearly very few people who post on here are at an AI campus. Ours is turning a corner finally. Budgets approved, new computers and gear purchased, last couple open houses were really big and the promise of high profile collaborations to come from a recent post by the President and CEO. I know my campus is now working with two big gear manufacturers on partnerships and certifications. We are adding hours and sections again. That means more staff at some point. The new way of thinking around here is very upbeat after years of disappointment and bad press. Probably why I do not check this blog much anymore. Focused on solutions not complaining. But it is easy to complain then to work on rebuilding the college's reputation. I am hopeful.

Online classes are only 5 1/2 weeks long, The Art Institute Online is still registering students and placing them in classes as late as week 2 (an EDMC practice). This means the student has already missed 20% of the class time, is late turning in at least 3 assignments, misses participation for week 1 since the other students have already moved on to week 2, has not had the chance to purchase art materials or textbooks, and is forced to rush to complete two weeks worth of assignments by the end of week 2, or the instructor is forced to extend all dates for the entire class so the student can catch up (the instructor takes a "hit" on persistence if the student does not make it - but admissions gets credit as long as the student posts once). If DCEH had an ounce of dignity or respect for students and higher education, or even a hint of Christian morality and cared at all for the student over profit, they would end this practice and stop rushing students into classes just to gain tuition or financial aid. "Not for profit" and "for profit" are only different in title, EDMC predatory practices are still very much alive at Dream Center Education Holdings and AiO.

Just a tip for all employees involved in student retention and other such faux concerns directed at the high risk student population you excavate.

Remember to use that concerned raspy caring voice that is so effective in conveying concern. Offer to pray with them. That costs not a thing and always helps to string them along long enough to get an honest day's loan bilking out of so many who have nothing left to lose.

Easy peasy! No?
