How safe do you all feel from store closings? I feel like everything is a crap shoot.

@itvq your analogy makes so much sense but I hope it isn’t truth as so many full timers have put a lot of time in with this company and deserve that severance if they are let go
I can think of a lot of upper layer fat beyond store managers that could be cut! Like the district managers!! Why can the regional managers handle their area if the country with less stores to manage... why does the regional managers need an over payed assistant
No one should feel safe at this point... Mine has been one of the better ones in our district, but we're closing and no one expected this. And all because of the lease.
@pmf- Now your starting to understand the end game. If they make all FT go part time then benefits dont have to be paid, severance doesnt have to be paid, unemployment is lower and it is easier to just eliminate jobs.
If you get rid of ASM's and make a hardline and softline lead in charge then you can cut payroll on those ASM's who have been around for a long time. Have regular employees have a key to open and close, so that in effect they are the manager on duty, but without the manager pay.
Have commission people have to run a cash register to eliminate them making too much on commission--thus getting free labor. Lower commissions, cut hours so that old timers quit or retire.
Have old timers retire-- Let Metlife and the government worry about paying the retirement, pay severance to those who want out now, cut hours so that many quit, take away benefits or make them so expensive that no one will sign up for them. Then shut the whole thing down.
@pmf That actually makes sense in a way.
IF ALL ASM AND FULL TIMERS GOING AWAY AFTER TOMORROW THAT WOULD SET UP TO SHUT IT ALL DOWN AND NOT HAVE TO PAY ANY SEVERANCE SINCE ALL BUT SM ARE PT.
As long as people are playing craps --- come on seven out, daddy needs a new pair of shoes.
At this point its not safe to assume if this job is your only source of income. I would feel more worried about your position being eliminated more than the store going down. Anyhow overall at this point you just never know their is just so much debt owed that you don't know when the whole company will collapse. As soon as Eddie stops giving it life support everything is done. As soon as Eddie sees nothing else to squeeze its the day Sears is done.
Sears and Kmart are done. If you habe not found somewhere else to shop by now...well, your an idiot.
- Shooting crap is a time honored morning ritual - no big deal
I never feel safe with this company. No one should because even if your store is doing "well" they will shut you down.
