Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Transferring to a nearby Sears

Anybody knows if employees who are going to be affected by the announced closings will have any kind of advantage to fill possible openings at (relatively) nearby Sears stores?

I don't mind commuting longer, and due to my current family situation, I can't really move and look for a better option. Anybody has any info on this?

You can reapply to the nearest Sears but you will be considered a new hire so you may not get the same pay. Or if you are in good with the manager at the new store they may be able to pull some strings.

Of course they will look at you for a nearby Sears provided you have a good recommendation.

When our store closed the neighboring Sears store encouraged our associates to apply, especially if their metrics were good. However, only a few expressed an interest since it would involve a lengthy commute. Keep in mind that there could be staff reductions in the near future; that could affect the number of openings available at neighboring stores.

Does your pay still stay the same if you have to reapply?

Employees from a neigh boring Sears next to mine wanted to transfer and had to wait until their location was completely closed . They had to reapply to open positions. Something having to do with the contact with the liquidators.
