Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

Kmart Store Manager Meeting on Tuesday?

Does anyone have any information on whether it's true that there is a Kmart Store Manager meeting on Tuesday? It has been talked about on the Sears Layoff blog. Talk is that they are eliminating F/T and ASM positions this week.

No layoffs at your store? Not on closing list? You will be soon enough.

We had a 'remodel' approx. 2 years ago. Basically they placed all the counters in a linear fashion and eliminated most of the dead ends. It was almost like a store wide reset (new strip labels, etc) all at once. We got new signage in pantry and a few other areas. Moved some of the departments from one side of the building to another. Very little took place in soft lines.

Full remodels, haha we don’t have that money. Nice try. Full timers and ASM’s be scared.

Remaining stores will receive full remodels. Store signage, fixtures, and registers to be upgraded. Stores over 80k sq feet will be 'right sized' to a smaller format. Store assortments will be 'optimized' so only higher selling items will be sold... Expect sporting goods, home improvement, and auto assortments to drop. Selling space for deal flash merchandise will increase with the reduction in the previously mentioned departments.

As previously rumored, some district managers will be going away. Store managers will go on FaceTime Store Tours will their new Area Manager 3x per week.

"Take care and Let’s go Kmart, we are number 1" Actually, Kmart is a steaming pile of number 2.

"Take care and Let’s go Kmart, we are number 1" You are truly a delusional DM (if you are really a DM and not a faker).

There is no lay offs this year folks. I am a district manager within this region. Just love seeing these employees in here talk about it. I already fired three employees over the last two months for being on this site at work on the work computer.

Take care and Let’s go Kmart, we are number 1

In the Northeast, our Visual merchandiser found out he was getting laid off last year when his expense credit card didn't work and he called to see what was wrong and was told it was for employees only...We will see.

One disclaimer: I'm not sure if the mypay trick still works. The company may have changed it from when it happened to me during the last round layoffs, but they probably haven't because they are tacky like that.

Wouldn't surprise me. They had the same store manager meeting last January followed by layoffs. We will have layoffs either this Thursday/Friday or next Thursday/Friday. Or it's something else. One little trick is to check your 88sears mypay the day before a suspected layoff, so this week and next week check on Wednesday night and Thursday night after 12:00 am EST. if you are being laid off the next day your final paycheck will be "viewable" under mypay. It will be very obvious what it is (vacation payout, a check # instead of direct deposit, a check being issued on a non payday, etc). Be proactive and check the night before you think a layoff might happen. It feels good to have the upper hand going in to a situation knowing the truth

I guess we will see on Tuesday. I'm a full time employee, just waiting for my walking papers. Been depressing coming in everyday and thinking it might be your last. I do my job and do it well, but my heart is not in it.
