What downturn? This isn't downturn, this is how it should be and will be, for decades oil destroyed humanity and planet Earth, time to be balanced.

I think this goes even lower, oil worker earned enough and made enough war.

Lay off is planned activity based on company financial forecast. The oil price and stock price has to be in upward trend for a while before it will have effect on company plan to lay off or not. Just my opinion. But one of SLB transformation objectives is to operate more efficiently (less people , less cost and more profit ) should tell us something about the vision!

Extreme cold weather and season, declined oil reserves inventory, protest in Iran and higher oil price is the reason.

This will give chance to shale producer to produce more and eventually lower oil price, unfortunately shale producers are not regulated to limit production like opec does.
