Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Oxon Hill Kmart Closing ?

I would like to know how this store is still in operation. Sales are down 15 percent compared to last year. Shrink this past May was around "$400,000" which I believe may actually be more than that. L.P. doesn't stop the criminals from actually stealing. He is more concerned with associates. He still can't do that right. I've heard of associates stealing TV's,D.V.D. players, microwaves, vaccum cleaners, and alot of other high price items. The jewelry department has missing jewelry from associates and friends. Cashiers not ringing every item up. The cash office associates were stealing money for over a year. As i stated as a 2 months ago a Vendor recently fell off our loading dock.He is in critical condition after the incident. He had major surgery and has been eating through a feeding tube since the incident. The A.S.Ms get cashiers and associates to create fake shop your way accounts. They try to get you to sign up for Sears credit cards. The store is going downhill. Layaway wasn't as busy as it used to be in the past. We actually ran out of Christmas trees before Christmas Eve. Usually we would have tons of Valentine's Day items. As of today we have maybe 3 pallets worth of stuff. Recently as last week the Store Manager locked some customers in the store and they stole high price jewelry. Associates schedules for next week are 10 hours total. The following week 8 hours total. What is the company getting out of this store that they manage to keep it open ?

Whoever made the original post was most likely the main one sad when they announced we were closing. I hope they are happy now since it appears they have been wanting this location to close for some time!

It's amazing that so many people defended this location and praised it's success, but now it's closing!! IRONY!!! And yeah, that store has huge theft issues...

Shrink is down?? Ha ha! Oxon Hill had so much loss from internal and external theft that it would put other companies to shame!!! Tv's, bikes, record players, clothes, toiletries, etc. have walked out of that store on a daily basis. Trust me!!! I've seen it!!

I love to hike. I hike all the time when I'm at my weekend house in the mountains. How can I afford two houses? I do have a clue and I do understand business.

@1fll - Wake up, smell the coffee, then go out and buy yourself a clue. Just read some of the other post on here today. A vast number of stores are being closed and hundreds of associates are losing their jobs! That is not normal operating procedure for a successful retail company. You and your haughty indifference can go take a hike.

Hours always get cut after Christmas and many seasonal workers get laid off. Nothing new, nothing that every other retail business does and has done for decades.

Original poster, by getting on sites like these and bashing the store you work out doesn’t help you out at all. If you’re concern with anything, address it with your manager or store manager. In addition, all stores are cutting associates hours it’s retail and January is the slowest months.

Yours truly

Craig

And yes I do work for the company as a store manager. I’ll be happy to send this over to your store manager Max well.

Hey college educated superior guy:

  1. It's YOU'RE. Learn how to spell. Contractions aren't that difficult. If YOU'RE going to be a nasty person, don't use YOUR twice when you mean YOU'RE.

  2. CHECK should be past tense. CHECKED.

  3. COMPARE should be past tense. COMPARED.

  4. INTERNALS should be singular.

  5. I BET YOU'RE JUST A LAZY fragment, incomplete thought.

Pretty wretched performance for such a short paragraph.

Did you go to college? graduate? How hard is it to be nice? When YOU'RE functionally illiterate, and you are, you should really try to be nicer.

@had - "actually the store is in the green as we speak for ebitda. I bet you don’t even know what ebitda is?" Well, it is absolutely obvious you have no idea what ebitda is! For the most part, ebitda is absolute malarkey. Here are some points about ebitda.

  • A negative EBITDA indicates that a business has fundamental problems with profitability and with cash flow. A positive EBITDA, on the other hand, does not necessarily mean that the business generates cash. This is because EBITDA ignores changes in working capital (usually needed when growing a business), in capital expenditures (needed to replace assets that have broken down), in taxes, and in interest.

  • Some analysts do not support omission of capital expenditures when evaluating the profitability of a company: capital expenditures are needed to maintain the asset base which in turn allows for profit. Warren Buffett famously asked: "Does management think the tooth fairy pays for capital expenditures?"

  • Because EBITDA (and its variations) are not measures generally accepted under U.S. GAAP, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission requires that companies registering securities with it (and when filing its periodic reports) reconcile EBITDA to net income in order to avoid misleading investors.

I just check this store, hmm cases are up over 300% compare to last year, shrink is down, internals cases are up, Safety incidents are down and actually the store is in the green as we speak for ebitda. I bet you don’t even know what ebitda is? I bet you’re just a lazy, I can tell you have no college education and are mad because your only getting 10 hours. Hahah, that’s what happens to folks like yourself. Enjoy those 10 hours. Before you go on here to speak about your store or others maybe you really should know the true numbers of your store or the store your crying about.

Yours truly,

David
