Has anyone heard any credible information about layoffs for hourly employees at the Schenectady plant? The shop floor is flooded with rumors right now and I was wondering if anyone had any information that came from a reliable source. One rumor I heard was that a local news truck was on campus this morning because GE would be announcing 200 layoffs for hourly employees. GE needs to stop keeping everyone in the dark and have an all hands meeting and start letting people know the details of their plan going forward. Peoples livelihoods are at stake.

No there won't be layoffs. They will flex and TLOW.
There should be several hundred T.L.O.W.'s come Jan 1st, there isn't sh-- for work for the 1st quarter of the year. Instead of keeping everyone jailed in a area with nothing to do 5 days a week, send us all home and bring us back when there is work. When those that don't want to simply do their jobs each day, get rid of them, watch the production numbers skyrocket when the useless are weeded out from the crowd!!!
Yeah there are layoffs coming you cant continue paying out double what you have cash flow your making. If he cuts the dividend stock price will tumble more.
They had an all hands meeting recently. Leadership was laughing and joking! Talking about vacations! All is good. No fear.
And, with low volume for Power, why would they lay off workers they don't need? And why would they lay off US workers when European workers are cheaper to use?
BRIAN How can you be so sure about that regarding "no hourly layoffs"?
I would update your resume and look around just to be ready. Not for panic purposes, just for piece of mind and doing what is in your control. You'll feel a little better.
NO HOURLY LAYOFF. Trust me.
GE isn't concerned about yours or any other employees livelihood. You are just an SSO #.
I found that out the hard way about a year ago.
There is life after GE!! I promise.
