Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Do we know if it's done?

Do we know if the layoffs are done? Or should we expect even more today? I barely slept last night from both anxiety and relief... Relief because I was not among those laid off and anxiety because I wasn't sure if the whole thing was done with. Sad that working at General Electric now pretty much guarantees some kind of anxiety disorder...

There will be a 3-4% workforce reduction in April'18.

Getting clear of the GE culture will make your life so much better. There is a much bigger and better world than what GE can offer. My time at GE was the worst time of my life. Explore elsewhere. You will be so glad you did.

They have already started the process of selecting names for next year's first round of layoffs. Do not be complacent just because they missed you this time!

We were told yesterday in a team meeting that “there is a good possibility of more to come in 2018 as the Power business continues its restructuring”.

If the orders don’t pick up soon, it’s guaranteed that more and larger cuts will come (my opinion).

I'm not worried about my job but I'm concerned about the support I can provide to my business. With all cuts in Digital, CoreTech is overworked and issue resolution is almost nonexistent. That is what is giving me anxiety these days.

Get a grip, anxiety disorder? There is life after GE, you can't change what's going to happen.

This round is done, but the next one is already in process.

Layoffs and re-orgs are part of GE's DNA. It has been this way for years. Granted, the frequency has increased lately, but don't ever think you are secure as a GE employee.

Back in the days when men were men we would just go to the bar and drown a few. No sense losing sleep over what you can't control. You don't want to look back on this period and feel you whimpered.

Layoffs will be a continuous process for next 1-2 years.

They will review the situation and layoffs are likely to occur every quarter.

This was told by an Executive-Engineering

Historically, they try to do mass layoffs simultaneously. I suspect you are safe for now. Try asking your manager. He/she will not give you a clear answer, but you may get a clue.

They are already working on the paperwork for the next round of cuts. I know Greenville is done for this round, but I can't speak for other sites.
