Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Approximately 80 laid off in Norwalk, CT today (Nov 30, 2017)

80 layoffs in Norwalk, CT in Digital Technology, with the following age distribution, according to the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act Disclosure distributed to those who were laid off (as required by federal law under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act):

Age: Number of Layoffs

20s: 2

30s: 23

40s: 34

50s: 19

60s: 3

According to Nolo.com, the law requires employers to "follow certain safeguards -- when asking older employees to give up their right to sue the company. By signing a waiver—often called a release or covenant not to sue—an employee agrees not to take any legal action, such as an age discrimination lawsuit, against the employer. "

Severance pay and health insurance is less for those who won't sign.

Do you think people should waive that right?

@QwL0xqC-thr: A couple, but mostly it's the people who actually do the work who are being let go.

It seems kind of meaningless to give the age distribution of the employees laid off without giving the overall age distribution of all employees....

There are some senior executives in DT in Norwalk. Are they being laid off too?

You have to waive the right or you get no severance pay. No choice unfortunately unless you are independently wealthy.
