Wondering if someone could share the monthly cost for Cobra? Any way to get this info ahead of time? Is it the same $ if you leave GE vs get laid off?

Totally depends on your current enrollments and is specific to you. Call benefit center and they can give you rates.
My sincere advise is to arrange meeting with HR rep. Have her/him make call/send email on your behalf and do not leave the office until you get your answer in writing. DO NOT CALL Ge benefit call center yourself. They are off the street hires, often provide incorrect answer. This is from my own experience. They told me that I am good to go. When I showed up at the doctors office with my wife they refused service, saying that insurance company has no record other than I was terminated from GE. It took me about one month, 10 emails and several phone calla to HR to straiten things out. Fortunately my HR lady was very nice. Once you are out the door, nobody will care about you.
Depends on your/dependant age, and the health insurance company [UHC, BCBS of Alabama, Kaiser etc.]. I pay $485.00 just for my wife.
My cobra after six months at GE rates would have been $1200/month for just family health insurance if I hadn’t gotten another job. Huge rates. At least double GE rates.
If you sign the legal release from suing the company and take Income Extension Aid (IEA - the weekly payout coordinated with state unemployment), I was able to continue my current GE healthcare/dental/vision for 6 months at my GE employee rate. The next 12 months (total of 18 months per COBRA requirements) are at full COBRA rates. For myself and spouse, that was about twice what I was paying as a GE employee. It was still cheaper than Obamacare here in VA. In both cases, first 6 months and subsequent 12 months, I pay Conexis (now WageWorks) directly from my checking account with ACH withdrawals. Note that these are "after-tax" withdrawals compared to the "before-tax" deductions as a GE employee.
I was layd off 18 months ago. Cobra was 485.00/month. It may depend on your salary.
It all depends on what coverage you need and how many people are covered. When I got laid off in March I elected the weekly pay out vs. lump sum so that I could keep my same insurance. GE will no longer take that money out of your weekly paycheck, so you will have to pay a 3rd party (in my case Conexis) monthly. You keep the same coverage as you had at GE. I've heard COBRA is super expensive. If you go online and search for COBRA and I believe there is some information on their website. Hang in there. Like most say, life outside GE is much better.... I had 16 years there.
My understanding it is quite expensive, over $2000/month. Obama care may be cheaper.
