What is GE Severance Policy
With all the talk of layoffs, what is GE's layoff package like for salaried employees?

Is GE severance negotiable?
The amount of severance is negotiable. GE typically offers 1 wk per year as a starting point.
I have seen it get as high as three weeks per yr of service. of course there is the urban myth of 4 wks per yr, but I haven't seen it.
Read this in another thread and it was the first time I heard about something like this. Has anybody actually managed to raise their severance? Is it really possible? Why would they agree to that?

It only goes downhill after the first severance package offer
With severance packages, the first offer is always the best offer. Companies don't sweeten the offer. Involuntary layoffs with reduced severance (unemployment and 1 week of severance for every year of service), is likely the next step in reducing costs. Now GE can pick and choose which "roles will be eliminated" and dump whomever they please. It's legalized discrimination. Good Luck to all.
This is an important point to take into consideration. I am yet to hear that somebody got a better offer once they refused their initial severance package. If I am wrong, please correct me, but from my experience, this is how they operate.

Severance Terms Adjustments
I would assume that the terms are standard and non-negotiable for the severance that's typically offered to any GE employee that has been laid off...but I thought I'd go ahead and ask. Did anyone try to negotiate some different terms? For health care, or end date, or anything?
