Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE FieldCore - GE Power Firing All Field Engineers

We hear that GE fired the entire GE Power turbine field engineers and told them they could come back as temps, for low pay, and no overtime for working like 60 and 72 hour weeks.

We also hear that the out of touch management who did this really believe 85% of them will stay and that hundreds have already quit and even walked off job sites.

How are customers taking this, especially when they are charging them $350 to 450 an hour just for straight time, and still 1,5 times that for overtime?

I saw this coming 20 years ago, it started with the rediculus Six Sigma program. Then moving and consolidation in Atlanta. Then managers from different departments such the appliance business running the Power Gen. Departments. The new managers know nothing about alignment, controls, turbine maintenance, etc. I remember when every upper level manager had to gone through the Field Engineering Program. I doubt if these knucklehead managers can even read a blueprint.

I left 20 years ago and sold all my GE stock. Best career move I made even though it broke my heart when I left. Lots of good memories and plenty of good friends. This will take several years recover.

@QswTqJW-1esy NAILED IT!!!!

All GE managers are passing through and only care about their personal pocket padding metrics at the brief moment they’re in their current position. No long term decisions needed for this mindset.

You’re also correct that they have no idea how connected field engineers are with customers. The GE death spiral WILL continue as long as these financial jargon junkies are in control.

GE Employees should elect management instead of investors. But of course, that will never happen.

We were informed that GE Power management believed that 85% would stay which is ridiculous.

Also heard that several hundred have quit and competitors like MDA has picked up a bunch of the better field engineers. Others reported getting lots of calls by those effected looking for employment.

Very bad optics for turbine customers in power plants.

Its obvious GE Power management are very out of touch, but not surprising because most of the new breed has never done the work, and don't know the customers or business anymore. I don't think they care, as long as they get their bonuses, and most are only passing thru anyways and change jobs every 18 months.

No accountability, and little expertise with GE managers anymore

I heard only 14% took the Fieldcore initial offer of 80% of GE salary. Don't how things have evolved since September.
