Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

It's official: Cisco Is Doing Great Without You!

CSCO has not seen these levels since 2001, business continues to shift toward software model, and the market is sure feeling more positive about the company's future. There's a lesson to be learned, particularly by any Cisco Lifer that's been let go. Whither you're technical or in a sales function, always be updating your skills, be a life learner, and most importantly, shed the attitude.

Even if Cisco were in a terminal spiral I expect they’d still be here a decade from now. On the other hand, cash is nearly 40% of the stock price now which certainly wasn’t the case in 2001 and even with that it’s still far less than half its peak. Adjust for inflation where the top would be over $118 in today’s dollars and it’s still extremely weak. Look at the company that walked away with Cisco’s iPhone trademark for a company that knew how to grow.

Also, remember that back then, there were more shares outstanding and no debt. The market cap is effectively 5/7 of when stock was last at this level.

Levels since 2001?? Wasn't that the peak of the .com crash? Not exactly levels I'd be excited to see

Hahaha.... Clearly the OP is a senior leader at Cisco, because only a moron would believe that a share price has anything to do with company performance.

If I were you I'd question why revenues are still declining after 2 years and $8bn of acquisitions since Chuck has been in charge and why there are still layoffs being made right now to prop up profits.

Some people are deluded by their cushy roles and average pay at Cisco and will happily choose a mediocre career over actually having to work. The market is on to it too, so good luck trying to get a job outside where you're finally LR'd

I'd sell now for sure. If you're on the inside and don't realise the markets are having the wool pulled over its eyes, you deserve to loose your money! https://seekingalpha.com/article/4126381-cisco-buying-software-story

There is a bit of financial magic in Security numbers (for ex. Meraki), and the overall picture it's not as rosy as many would like to paint it.

Sounds like a dead cat bouncing. You can only break so many fingers before the hand cannot sign POs. Congrats to the VPs for their (I'm sure HUGE!) Christmas bonuses.

Don’t believe the hype. Cisco does a lot of paid promotion. The stock is up due to $ billions in buybacks. Don’t congratulate your self either OP. Cisco won’t need you soon either no matter how much you update you skills or s--- up to management.

Give Chuck some credit. But, also, keep your eyes open. Barron's piece today very good. How can we be a tech leader with lagging tech.

I don't know I have a weird feeling about this.

Security's success can not sustain R&S decline.

Cool. I am doing great without Cisco. Not sweating layoffs. RSU's have tripled in value in two years. Working with gear that is not riddled with bugs. BTW, I wouldn't define "Doing Great" as switching and routing revenue down 4 and 6 percent respectively. Chuck is trying to build a third story addition to the house while the foundation crumbles.
