I have heard Broadcom is much leaner.
Also hear they layoff if your division is not profitable.
Some duplication of jobs and layoff cannot be avoided.
Do they they just lay off the lower half performers or is it a whole group at a time?

IT staff will have to grow for a few years to handle all the churn and divestitures going on. Then it will fall off a cliff.
Some of the groups (for example, IOT) spelled out in @Q8Ij9Y4 will likely be sold off, not shut down. Otherwise, if you're in a BU that gets shut down, you'll get laid off, no matter how good a job you did.
Broadcom has the best parties, far and away.
NXP parties tame, even compared to Qualcomm.
Layoff needs to be in 25-30% range for the acquisition to make sense. It will be around 7500 people in San Diego. The new company will have a debt load in excess of $100B. They need to generate lots of cash to pay the debtors.
Happy fat cat years are over. It’s time for all the arrogant Qualcomm execs to face the music. It will be a miserable sweatshop. I will not be here. Just accepted an offer from the fruit company. Good luck all
Don't worry guys
This was all neatly spelled out here
Basically, if you aren’t working on snapdragon SOC or QTL you’re screwed.
The final numbers based on an email I was able to see from a VP in San Diego is of 3523 full time employees. good Luck!!
5000 San Diego, goodbye San Jose, goodbye Raleigh, bye bye Boulder, etc...
Maybe triple the old layoff of 1300 in San Diego? Just a wild guess given the size of both mergers next year, if they happen.

Layoff after Atheros acquisition was 15% (San Diego Tribune says 31,000 employees in 2015).
This will be way more.
