Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Attorney looking for comments--Did Enrollment Managers try to find a reason/s to fire Enrollment Advisers?

I am an Attorney with a very large law firm in the Phoenix area. I have a client who thinks so. Did Enrollment Managers over the last 2 years try to find a reason/reasons to fire Enrollment Advisers?? Did Enrollment Managers try to find a reason/reasons to write up and give Discussion Memos and write up Enrollment Advisers? If the current CEO of University of Phoenix is reading this he needs to take this matter/issue very seriously as this issue will be addressed to him very soon. Please share your thoughts/comments.

The Enrollment Managers at Santa Teresa, New Mexico are the worst they are not trained to be managers they only do as the higher bosses tell them what to do and it's pathetic because they have lost so many good people due to their ignorance. I can't wait until that place closes down and they suffer to get another job.

You can be let go for a Reduction In Force reason ANY TIME ! Do not think these attorneys can help you. They're only out for a quick $$$ from your pocket. They'll make the money and you end up with pocket change and STILL without a job.

Has any Enrollment Advisor's in the last 2 -3 years received a Discussion Memo and/or a Written Warning for enrolling a student and they dropped out in their first class and you did all of your weekly retention calls and you have great work performance as far as retention and very few of your students have dropped out in the last few years?? We are pursing a civil lawsuit against University of Phoenix and you have rights. If a student drops out you are not held accountable if you did all of your retention calls. Please share your experiences. This is totally confidential.

Making Regs has always been part of the job requirement for enrollment. Now, if your REG (enrolled student) fails the first class you no longer get credit for the REG. If "too many" of your students fail the first class it is now your responsibility and you will be Written Up to termination. It is policy! You are held liable for your students doing their work. Its ridiculous absolutely insane. As an EC my only tool is to give the student a reminder call to do homework if they do it or not is not in my control so why do I have to pay the price if he or she cant keep up or doesn't want to do the work (buyers remorse). Many students fail on the first try because attending online is never what they pictured in their mind not to mention the caliber of our students is very very poor. They can barely fill out application alone let alone write a non-plagiarized paragraph. (SMH) UOPX is stupid

Has anyone in Enrollment-Enrollment Advisors received a Discussion Memo or Written Warning in the last year (the last 12 months) for your student dropping out in the first class? Or were you terminated for this?

Has any other Enrollment Advisor with a very good performance record been given a Discussion Memo or written-up in the last 3 years if a student dropped out in the first class? Also, do you think Enrollment Manager's were told to do this on purpose to reduce staff so there is less employee layoffs and/or severance packages given? Please share your story or opinion as this information is confidential.

It is really pathetic for this or any Enrollment Manager with University of Phoenix to write-up an Enrollment Advisor if a student dropped out in the first class, especially if this Enrollment Advisor has great retention in the first 2 classes and has very few students dropping out in the last 3 years. I would talk to upper management about it, and if you have no luck I would consult an Attorney. An Enrollment Advisor can't be held accountable if a student drops out....especially if they do their retention calls. An attorney can ask the student why they dropped out, and get a subpoena to pull your performance work records to prove it wasn't justified to write you up. It maybe be considered harassment or some other reason why he did this that an Attorney can prove otherwise. If this Enrollment Advisor or any Enrollment Advisor enrolled a lot of students and made University of Phoenix a lot of money why would a dumb a-- retarded Enrollment Manager even think of doing this? It is like a professor who teaches online classes and he starts with 15 students and after 3-4 weeks in the first class 2 students drop out and they blame or write up that professor for them dropping out...LOL..wouldn't you agree ?

To: The attorneys who are reading this-I was the top Enrollment Advisor on my team and was with Univ of Phoenix for a long time and I got a "Discussion Memo" from my fat loser Enrollment Manager because one of my students dropped out in the first class. He said I didn't prepare this student..lol. I have a very high success rate/percentage probably about 97% of my students make it thru the first two classes for retention. I haven't had a student drop out at all in the last 3 years before I received my "Discussion Memo".....seriously. An attorney can subpoena and get my performance records to prove a point. I had 15 REG's in 3 months and my co-worker had 2-3 REG's in the same period...seriously I asked my co-worker. If anyone has inside information that corp told Enrollment Managers to try to find a reason to write-up and/or fire Enrollment Advisor's please share what you know. I think they were trying to do this so there is less layoffs and the public doesn't know about it because it is private info. Share what you know to the attorneys on here. It is confidential. I think we have a class action lawsuit if a lot of other Enrollment Advisers had the same situation Thank you.

I have been written up for a student quitting class on the first day. The ER claimed that the student should not have quit if I had I spent more than 1 week on preparing him. However the student completed the application just 10 days before class leaving me 7 days to prepare him. They are looking to fire for ANY reason. If your really a lawyer and you really to know how UOP works how would I get a hold of you? I can only say so much on this page.

As far as the comment from the gentleman that said employees can be fired for any reason. Well, an Enrollment Manager can face a personal civil lawsuit as well and get his wages garnished if he doesn't pay the judgement. I have garnished a few wages in my career and it is not a pretty and fun legal document to get in the mail and/or in person. There are other ways for an attorney to garnish a defendant's judgement if he doesn't pay it such as bank accounts, tax returns, etc. So, if you are an Enrollment Manager or any employee with University of Phoenix please share here if you were told to write up and/or fire Enrollment Adviser's for any reason, because if you don't you too can face a civil lawsuit as well as your employer.

Yes, I am an attorney. I do not work for University of Phoenix in any department, and no I am not a manager at any level. My client was given a "Discussion Memo" for not preparing a student for his/her first class, and my client has a 99% retention rate meaning he does not have very many students dropping out in the first class, and has never been written up prior to this. This particular student dropped out in his/her first class. My client was even threatened after hours by his Enrollment Manager. If any Enrollment Advisers were given a "Discussion Memo" and/or given a "Written Warning" in the last 2 years please share your experience. Yes, employees can be fired for any reason but it doesn't mean an employer can't be sued in a civil lawsuit and/or face a class action civil lawsuit from a number of employees. I have never lost a civil lawsuit in court. If you believe management was trying to find reasons to fire Enrollment Advisers so they don't have to layoff employees and give them a severance package------please share your thoughts. This is a very serious issue especially when a manager is threatening employees after hours. The local newspaper even contacted my office wanting to publish this in the local newspaper.
