Happy 2018! Same $h1t, Different Year

New Year's is a great time for individuals to reflect, reboot, make new changes, goals & paths for the coming year. The emphasis is on CHANGE, as in IMPROVING. How tragic and depressing to return to Mattel in January knowing that none of that will happen. RD, M-Go, and the board will continue to... well George Bailey said it perfectly some 71 years ago: "You sit around here and you spin your little webs and you think the whole world revolves around you and your money. Well, it doesn't, RD. In the whole vast configuration of things, I'd say you were nothing but a scurvy little spider."

So everyone enjoy your break. 2018 is the year Mattel ends.

Incredibly sad...Pleasant Company was an awesome company to work for! I never loved a job more! To see how it has been destroyed, by the one and only, is heartbreaking, to say the least. The saddest day ever was when we were told that the company had been sold to the conglomerate! It was all downhill after that.

Our best days are long behind us. If Mattel and its brands simply disappeared from the face of the earth, would anyone even care in 5 years? By that time, employees would be scattered to the winds (the best already have been), the griping and gloating at this website would have died off. Barbie, Hot Wheels, FP & AG products would be rare collector items and people would actually give a $h!t about them. All inevitable things, all good things, bring it on! So M-Go, CFO-Jo, RicDic, BoD and everyone, just keep doing the stellar jobs you've been doing and run out the clock. Time to party like it's 1999! BTW, our stock price in January 2000 was FIVE bucks. Of course in Dec 2013 it was FORTY bucks. What a roller coaster ride. Happy New Year! See you all at the big party tonight, the TOYS are playing to ring in the New Year. Stockdown has a loooooooong guitar solo in "Money for Nothing", and the regulars will alternate between their two favorite songs, "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Don't Stop Believin". How ironic that "Believin" is sung by the HR lady, the crusher of dreams!

Game over Mattel! Bad BoD. MGo was a miss. RD a total disaster. Either bankruptcy during 2018 or give Hasbro a shot at doing something of value with pieces of Mattel. There is at least huge synergy savings to be had.

Unfortunately, 2018 will result in a new owner of Mattel. What they do with the company is uncertain, but balancing the portfolio to avoid having one brand deliver more than 3/4 of the profit is paramount. We can only hope the current BoD and Management Team is quickly escorted out of the company and we proceed with seasoned veterans of CPG industries, mixed with experienced toy/kid/licensing/entertainment managers. A good blend of Management, that are experts with the industry and the future of it all, is critical for a turnaround.

Agreed! Using this time to prep resume. Rather jump ship then go down with it! Best to all!
