To my knowledge it isn’t available online. Only went out to Cabela’s employees via Fed X

I live in Sidney and would love to read "the letter." Every Cabela's employee would have received it in email. Is it available anywhere online?

I think what is destroying the property values in Sidney, in addition, of course to the uncertainty with Cabellas, are the property taxes! Holy Smokes! 10K a year for a 400K house. You have got to be kidding me! I live in Fort Collins and my taxes on a 500K house are 1800 a year. You must have some corrupt SOBs running Sidney! If they do not get a handle on taxes, Sidney will be a ghost town. WY has no tax and Colorado is a lot lower. I guess Kansas is in bad shape, but unless Sidney gets a handle on the property tax, with no jobs, no one will live there. I say this, because I was thinking of relocating there, until I seen those property taxes.. I really do feel bad for the residents, but you should have voted out the corruption in the town years ago.

it seems strange that they would leave IT in Sydney. Cabela's always struggled attracting and keeping good IT people in Sydney. That's why they opened the Denver foothills office.

For companies IT is the brain center of the operation. If you don't have the best people you are going starting falling hopelessly behind. That's why IT grads from really good schools often are pulling in $80k+ ...straight out college! But only for the top schools and top grads. These grads are not going to pick a small rural town, when they have multiple job offers.

I think the good folks at Sidney may be finally waking up. Three weeks ago I was part of a group in Springfield. There were about 30 in this meeting between Cabela’s and BP.

Jim Hagale their CEO made the comment employees are a necessary evil. I think this one comment tells the whole story. Very few of the Legacy CAB group are going to come through this intact.

By the true definition, the business deal between BP and Cabela's was an acquisition. Not a merger. I think that the word merger was used to soften the blow and/or to confuse people. The word acquisition has a harsher overtone/take over meaning vs merger that people would think it was business as usual for Cabela's and BP operating each company separately. Too little too late for some that are just realizing that BP has been and will continue to be calling the shots.

Now for the posts that want all comments scrubbed, for facts, before being posted. Who would do that??? Who would be that one source of truth???? This is an Internet message board, not a court room. If a post rubs you the wrong way, you can ignore it and move on or respond. But just it hurt your feelings or you felt it was a lie, you can't call for censorship.

One thing that I find interesting about this page. It seems to be fully Sidney focused. Please remember there are nervous Outfitters from the east coast (stores and the Wheeling DC) to the west coast (stores and the Toole and Puyallup DC). Between these two coasts there are 20k outfitters wondering about their future. This in no way is to minimize the impact to Sidney, but there is a bigger picture at stake for the entire Cabela's family. Nervous times for all.

So you are in favor of comment censoship?

What would the criteria be and who will it be determined by?

Those who determine what is posted, how will they be chosen?

Censorship based upon whose point of view?

Just thoughts and musing concerning your comment.

Shouldn’t the comments made be examined first and how truthful they were to determined the bearing they may have had.

It’s not a merger, though that word is used frequently. Bass Pro bought Cabela’s-no merger it’s an acquisition. . Bass Pro is a private company, they don’t have to share their numbers with Cabelas staff. They are managing their business as usual. Of course

Cabela’s merchants and marketing teams have restrictions on them, the problems that created the financial problems had to be addressed. It’s good business practices, plain and simple.

What is the reasoning and logic behind your claims that one person is solely the author for multiple postings

Please explain

BP paid billions to aquire Cabelas. Therefore it is a purchase by definition. It doesnt matter what they they call it at Cabelas.

To say that one person posting comments is responsible for the destruction of the housing and economic market in Sidney is well, ignorant

There are so many factors and variables in this equation it is ignorant to even suggest let alone think that one person posting comments destroyed the economy and housing market, as well as a suicide and domestic violence.

I thought this was a purchase not a merger?

Everything I have seen or read has referred to Bass Pro purchasing Cabela's .

Which is it?

The record speaks for itself . You have come up at almost every discussion at Cabelas in regard to the merger. You in all honesty have been very good at posting negative posts in regard to the merger for the future of Sidney and Cabelas employees . I think most people give you a lot of credit in having a huge effect on destroying the house market and long term item sale. A lot of people wonder if all your negative statements have had a bearing on two men in regard to two assaults and one suicide in Sidney,, So are you saying you haven’t posted comments to yourself pretending to be another poster other then your self.

What a tool, immediatley upon posting anything contrary to what this individual believes, suddenly he/she accuses posters of self posting.

Wake up and look around you, there is a big difference between posting hateful and hurtfull comments and the naked truth. If anybody is posting hateful comments it is you, accusing people of self posting to themselves.

You sir or ma'am are nothing but a TROLL looking to cause nothing but hate and discontent. Your posts are always the same, maybe others see things differnt than you.

Most it seems want to stick their heads in the sand & pretend nothing is going to change. Talk to anyone in MP&I. Not allowed to order. No visability to any BP numbers. Gun department did a ton of business from special buys all has been shutoff. Catagory Managers not allowed to make decisions. Ask anyone in Marketing what there doing besides playing tiddlywinks. Those programs have been shutdown.

I feel for all involved but bottom line most are not going to benefit from the buyout.

Ask anyone that received their Fed X package today what happened to the employee discount program. Though I do agree our current one had gotten out of hand. Good god you can’t give so many people Summit pricing (true cost plus 5%) This was started by D & J to encourage those making buying decisions to purchase and use the items.

You get a clue. More than IT and accounting are moving to building 2. You are just trying to stir the pot and create more tension and stress for the associates who work there.

To the last poster. Did you post the last five posts pretending to be different poster. Also were you the same poster who posted bass pro would fire every Cabelas employee when bass pro took over. Or were you the same poster who stated bass pro would bring in 50 employees from Missouri to run the Sidney operation and fire every Cabelas employee in Sidney. Or were you the same poster who posted this was a extremely easy merger and the two systems would be easy to merge in a month. The wrong posts just go on and on. I am sure we can rely on the part of your post which comes from bass pro, however you are filled with so much hate for Sidney and Cabelas I doubt we can put any faith in any analysis of this merger you post.

I think it’s already too late to sell the houses. This has been coming for 2+ years and it seems like a case of massive denial. But you’re right, update that resume and get out, better late than never ..

I worked for Cabelas for many years. Back when a high level insider told me the Bass Pro deal was coming (before it was in the news) - I knew this would happen. Bass Pro (BP) doesn't need TWO headquarters. These layoffs are just the start. Once they eliminate the "first line" of people they will move on to others. BP doesn't need TWO IT departments, two accounting departments etc....

Having been through SEVERAL "mergers" and "buy outs" in my career - this is what is coming. People won't be able to sell their houses - they will end up going back to the back. I'm glad I got out BEFORE all this happened. So to those who still have a job at Cabela's - you BETTER start updating your resume and start sending it out!

DC = distribution center IT and accounting are only necessary until CAB data is extracted and loaded into BP systems.

Has there been an announcement of when the mass layoffs will occur? Things seems to have ramped up and I was not expecting such news around the holidays. I was expecting announcements in the new year, although I do see the reasons why this announcement has come before the long holiday so the employees have time to prepare themselves for what’s to come.

Although I do feel for the employees and the legacy that Cabela’s had built, I feel more for the townsfolk and the town as a whole more. With property values and houses for sale what will become of our small Nebraska town, I guess only time will tell, God help us all, all we can do is pray.

Here is my take.

Parts of the vision are finally becoming a reality. More will soon be announced. Will likely take months before all is truly known.

As of what is known today for Sidney.

  1. There will be an IT center of excellence in Sidney. Great news!

  2. The DCs in the area will all remain open. Great news!

  3. All Nebraska stores and call centers will remain open. Great news.

  4. The underutilized worldclass buildings will be offered virtually free of charge to companies willing to come to Sidney. Great news.

  5. Reality of current brick and mortar and the tough environment we are in. While not good news is consistent with everything else retailers face today. And he is right. Legacy Cabelas would have had to remove many jobs.

  6. Severance will be available. While scary, it is reality and will be needed and good news vs nothing.

His speech was from the heart and while jobs will be moved or lost, when one Company buys another, there is no obligation for that company to save the old company’s town. The obligation is too the many employees that still remain and to the viable entity that emerges and ultimately to the customers they serve.

I appreciated the candor vs something false.

I am also hopeful and praying future announcements could mean more for Sidney as well as Springfield.

He is spot on with private equity. Had private equity taken over, this impact would have been much swifter and MUCH MORE BRUTAL. Very few would have been employed during Christmas.

Apparently you weren’t listening. IT & Accounting are consolidating into building two. Our wonderful Ralph C sold the fishing area out big time.
