France to ban all oil, gas production by 2040

GE Might as well wind down all of the France based Alstom assets they bought, and EPE, too. France just announced that it is going fossil free.

"French President Emmanuel Macron responded to the approval of the law on Twitter, saying in part: 'Very proud that France has become the first country in the world today to ban any new oil exploration licenses with immediate effect and all oil extraction by 2040.' "

Why should GE waste money employing French to build fossil fuel consuming machines in a country that despises fossil fuels? This is the perfect justification to lay off all of Alstom in France. Tell the French government you're getting an early start on phasing out fossil fuel for them!

That's like Switzerland banning whaling. Makes a good headline, but it doesn't make a difference because they don't have a coastline.

There is, comparatively, very little oil production in France so it was an easy thing to say. Would they have agreed to this if they produced as much as Russia or Saudi? Would they heck.
