Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Done worrying about layoffs

I've realized that what I've been doing for every single day of the past six months (at least) is worry about layoffs. Every. Single. Day. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

We're letting the idiots running this company affect our mental health and stress us out and for what?

I'm positive there are better options out there. So even if I get laid off, I'll be okay. I'm determined not to let this cause me any more anxiety than it already has. Call this my early New Year resolution. Hopefully, more people will join me in it.

GE used to be known for deep technical expertise. Unfortunately, I believe it has been replaced by a generation of sons and daughters, and nieces and nephews of senior leaders who want to show off their newly minted management degrees. Too many program kids promoted before actually earning their stripes.

GE has a unique toxic work environment as is mentioned in these posts.

Its not a good work environment and very few now believe in the mission anymore. The workplace is unstable, and they bleed expertise from this and management just doesn't care because they are the new breed who are disconnected and don't know the business.

This is why GE is failing compared to the way it used to be.

You cant win in the marketplace with a demoralized workforce, inept management, and angry customers. This is why GE is failing

I agree that getting laid off actually worked out for the better. It was he!! For about 4 months but I landed a good job without all the stress. Now that I'm gone I realize they do drink a lot of Kool aid because other places are doing cool things too and don't trade you in for the next program kid that bats her eyelashes.

Don't become a victim of this poorly managed company. Even in the middle of all this uncertainy the EB's are still getting bonuses and the rank and file are sweating bullets. 2018 is going to be a mess. Start creating your own oppertunites outside the company. Don't let GE decide your fate

Let me tell you....getting laid off by GE was the best thing that happened to me in my 18+ years with the company. I have a better job now with a competitor that is much more enjoyable and with much better pay. The layoff was just the kick in the *ss I needed to break out of that horribly mis-managed company.

I would not recommend "waiting" for a layoff to happen or not. Start taking steps NOW to finding a new position somewhere else. Yeah it's not a ton of fun but it will reduce your stress level knowing that YOU are taking control over your future....not some bunch of disconnected executives in a corner office somewhere.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Even if i am not laid off, I am already looking elsewhere. This company has been horribly managed and in decline for some time. All the reasons to do a great job for this company have been disappearing over the years. This is the last straw.
