'There are plenty of other small towns that are closer to Denver and have cheaper housing and taxes than Sidney Nebraska'
Name a few that will be cheaper than Sidney once foreclosures snowball.
The poster make fun of the mayor of Sidney for having the courage to stand up to millionaires. Then I am sure he pretends ( as he often does) and post a statement with incorrect English , then I am sure he tells the posters on the site to watch their English. Mr mayor thank you for the courage you showed and ignore the Cabelas and Sidney hater on this site .
English, people!
English and grammar!
You really don't help your cause when you can't write.
I dont think the poster meant anything about being unethical so not sure where you are jumping to those conclusions. It sounds like they beleived all things Cabelas told them and beleived Cabelas would he there forwver to support the city ei: naive
You are so quick to judge the intentions of other posters with your batman way of sticking up for the city ot others. From what I see, they are just stating opinions based on what they think they see. You shouldnt really take losts on this sight as anything but opinions.
Have you ever noticed how this poster hate Cabelas and hate the town of Sidney- this is a funny situation, He states as usual the executive team at Cabelas is dishonest acted unethical and when the mayor have the courage to come forward and question if perhaps something could be done to help to remedy the situation. He becomes almost angry and states of course Cabelas executives acted outside of any ethical conduct but you much accept without possibility of being rewarded.
The mayor and 3/4 of the council were not part of all the gifts of support to Cabela's. You can't group the past city decisions to the current council or city manager. They weren't a part of it.
The mayor, both now and in the past, were taken for a ride. It is their jobs to make sound decisions and prepare for and drive growth and look out for residents' satisfaction. It is pretty obvious that they sat on all that and purely let Cabelas run the town and take advantage of everyone. So naive that they believed everything Cabelas told them. What did they do to bring any business into town while Cabelas was strong? Now that Cabelas has dissolved, they start panicking and complaining that they are "owed".
So yes...thank you mayor for standing up to millionaires....now that it's too late.
Mr mayor thank you for your tremendous courage in standing up to millionaires. The poster who post to himself is at it again. I am sure the previous two posts were from the same poster.
The only reason this has such an impact is due to the size of Sidney. The last poster is correct, acquisitions happen/companies are bought and sold or downsize.....most happen in larger metro areas and impact isn't as drastic compared to Cabela's and Sidney.
You people do know how corporate America works, right? There are no partnerships or anything. I don't like Cabelas at all, believe me, but if the city thinks that it is owed something because they were good to them, they are as naive as the people still there. It's America, people, companies rip off communities and employees everyday.
The town of Sidney has been out of touch with reality for a long time. Now that Cabela's is done for, the city/mayor are in panic mode. Had the city stood up to Cabela's years ago, maybe the situation wouldn't be as bad as it is. It is well known that Cabela's kept new businesses from coming to Sidney, because Cabela's was afraid that they would lose employees, what kind of reality is that???
Good for the Mayor to say what everyone is thinking. The community gave Cabela's a lot (golf course, new pool, new school, motels, and much much more. They do owe the community something!
It takes slot of courage to stand up to muti millionaires like the mayor of Sidney did with his statement. It takes no courage to make fun of him on this site. The only thing the poster who found the mayor's post to be funny is show just how out of touch the poster is of reality when it comes to this issue.
There are plenty of other small towns that are closer to Denver and have cheaper housing and taxes than Sidney Nebraska
waste of time to read this
I don't see Dave Ramsey, or anyone else stepping in to buy houses for pennies on the dollar. You have to be able to sell those houses. If Cabela's is gone who will buy your smoking hot real estate deals? The locals won't.
"I am curious what will happen when the real estate market does finally tank. And Sidney becomes a majority bank owned community."
People like Dave Ramsey step in and buy properties for pennies on the dollar.
Either that or Sidney best come up with a plan to attract businesses. I was supposing that someone who wanted to live near Colorado but not pay Denver prices, well will Sidney house prices capitulate enough to attract those type of people?
Tommy did you find something funny about the Cabelas stock holder and executive team giving perhaps a half of a percentage of your return back to perhaps the employees who built Cabelas or the town of Sidney who help finance the needed expansion s you asked for over the years. Tommy to help refresh your memory you told twenty thousand employees Cabelas spoke with one voice in negotiations with bass pro. No tommy that means you were to respresent all the employees at Cabelas in negotiations of the merger with bass pro and not just your self, you find the major statement funny . I find it a statement which respresent a policy which represents what Cabelas was before your self centered look out for your self a post took and destroyed a successful business.
I am curious what will happen when the real estate market does finally tank. And Sidney becomes a majority bank owned community.
Could be maybe the city leadership will finally get it through their collective thick skulls that maybe it is time to tighten third budgets. When the cash cow of high real estate taxes dries up.
I love the paragraph where the mayor of Sidney states that he thinks Sidney should be owed something. LOL Talk about a sense of entitlement there, buddy.
Multimillion dollar payments? Well, that's the point of overspending during uncertain times...
Some are nice there but there are a lot of arrogant residents in Sidney. It wasn't a welcoming
community for people who moved from out of state to work there. Plus all the tax breaks that Cabelas received didn't help the residents and they paid higher property taxes than some larger cities.
I wish the community the best despite this but there is no advantage or reason any larger company would ever be headquartered there again.
I do appreciate her calling out the cities role in this though, especially while working for the city.
Takes guts to ask Tommy and crew for some golden parachute money. The majority of the blame falls on Sidney for putting all there eggs in one basket!
