Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Stay away from Cenovus

I have been an employee of Cenovus for well over 5 years and what I’ve noticed is there is a continual change in leadership and upper management who seem to be unqualified and are only out for themselves. It is clear that it’s not what you know, but WHO you know that will get you up the ladder regardless of your abilities.

Employee satisfaction is at a low with constant reorganization, compensation reductions and an “over-time is required attitude” to do your job competently.

This is not a healthy workplace. My advice to anyone considering Cenovus - stay away!

Cenovus, sad to say, is no worse than any other company. Incompetent upper management, slimey hags for middle management, and no clue where the company is going other than smaller and smaller until bankruptcy.

The new CEO wont be any better than that terrible drunk Brian Ferguson. They only have 2 moves, (1) sell off part of the company (often the best parts and (2) more layoffs. This will be the story for Cenovus, just as it was for ConocoPhillips, Talisman, PenWesT, Enerplus, Pengrowth, etc etc etc.

For the employees around after this latest round of layoffs, then next one is coming. Unless you are near retirement, you will not retire from a company called Cenovus. It losses more money year after year after year. Do the math, Cenovus is losing 2.8 million dollars per day. Wont be long now. Poof, all gone. Heavy oil prices are trapped in the unprofitable range and Cenovus does not have deep enough pockets to ride out the next 20 odd years before the market actually needs this heavy, low value crude.

It was never going to be successful with thee terrible execs, terrible management and heavy oil focus.

Make other plans, you will NOT be working at Cenovus for long.
