Shift to Renewable Energy - Power is only going to go down (Bloomberg and WSJ Articles Today)

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-12-07/ge-s-12-000-job-cuts-highlight-uneasy-shift-to-renewable-energy

Everyone needs to face the facts that Power will only go down from here. Look at the facts and actually do some research. Natural gas is the cheapest it has been but it still cheaper to get power from wind and solar. This is only going to become more prevalent.

Just think about it, demand for turbines is only going to go down every single year because renewables will only become more efficient and will be cheaper to make. There isn't much Immelt, Bolze, or Flannery could have done or can do about a dying business. Battery tech will only become better meaning you can store energy when renewables will not produce power (clouds & no wind) and therefore make gas turbines redundant.

Everyone can keep their heads in the sand and be like "all is well" but face it, its a dying technology that won't be around 50 years from now. Power will eventually go bankrupt or get sold off. Welcome to 2nd coming of Westinghouse.

GE Wind was by and large subsidized by the guvmnt. Yes, socially and politically wind other companies had the engineering but Siemens miscalculated.

Wind & solar are popular, however, at least in people's minds. I think in time GT's will make a comeback when guvmnts tire in giving handouts.

I think in time gas turbs will make a turn around, but that'll be some time.

There are several factors contributing to the flat power market:

1) slow worldwide economic growth (the big one)

2) efficiency - i.e. LED bulbs and such

3) and yes, renewables as well - but they mostly replace coal.

For the long term, gas will be fine because they will replace coal fired plants. Worldwide, we get more energy from burning wood than solar and wind right now. The other huge problem is that GE is poorly managed. 1 Billion people on the planet do not have electricity. Keep your perspective.

Why don't you clowns get an education particularly those in the so-called management program. GE is in a downward spiral and will never recover because people don't know what they're doing.

@1xnq read the article. You prob have drank the coolaid and can't think for yourself. Face it, every country in the world besides the US is going to green energy, fossil fuels are getting phased out. There were literally articles on every major business website (cnbc, bloomber, wsj) writing customers are never going bavk to fossil fuels. It is NOT cheaper to get power from solar/wind than gas. Your entire post lost credibility after that sentence. You lack knowledge.

Or they could sell off Renewables. They bought it from Enron originally, after all. And it has been one money pit up a mast after another, for GE as well as customers.

Q: What can GE Renewables do to survive?

A: Lay off everyone and go dormant, awaiting fair winds and following seas. Arr, mateys.

Maybe so...but renewables demand in the US is way down and without the tax incentives, the financials for renewables aren’t profitable for investors. This is going to be a huge issue with the renewables business. How do we solve this? If GE cannot profit in this business and doesn’t have customers buying wind turbines in the US, what can GE Renewables do to survive?
