Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Bcom offer not unsolicited

Both Bcom and Qcom were in talks for a merger/getting bought long before today's news. Quarterly earnings report is always Wednesday and all hands has ALWAYS been the coming Friday. Every time. This time we did not having all hands meeting. All hands meeting was not scheduled for today because it would be chaotic. Announcement/leak from Bcom was preplanned.

Qcom execs want this deal to happen in order hedge possibility NXP deal won't happen; it is very likely it won't happen. Expect next all hands just to prep you what's going to happen next.

NOTE: this is all my guess. Having both acquisition announcement and no meeting is too convenient to be coincidental

@dfu I imagine all the previous companies acquired by AVGO felt the same way...

@dfu In the tech industry, Qcom has always had a big name, bigger than Bcom. Even now it is still well respected, mainly because of what it has accomplished in the past. Bcom has never been as well known and respected as Qcom.

On the bright side, the new company could be called Qcom. Avago bought BCom years ago, but renamed themselves Bcom because Bcom is more well known. The new company could be named Qcom.

I am pissed off to put it mildly. I helped build Q into what it is today. I do not feel that this company is a bargain to be bought by some other company so that we can become just another business unit among many in some GE-like soulless conglomerate. When there is an all-hands meeting, I want to hear about our achievements and not „Oh, and the mobile business unit (formerly Qualcomm) released a new SoC this week. Ain‘t that great?“ followed by weak applause.

I want Q to do the buying, like it would have been the case with NXP. I want to wear a Qualcomm badge. I want to see the Qualcomm logo on the building. I don‘t want to be bought.

If this really goes through, then goodbye and thanks for all the fish.

No all hands is not about Trump Asia tour. Trump Asia tour starts Sunday in Japan. There's no reason for SM to be in Japan. Trump visits South Korea on 7th and China the 8th. According to news, SM is visiting China.

SM won't be waiting in lines at the airport or waiting for a delayed flight. He will fly company jet.

Only now I rember that my manager said about six weeks ago „Hey, you know who I just saw? My former colleague who is now VP at Broadcom. Perhaps he is interviewing with Q?“

So yea, apparently, this has been long in the making, and upper management has been discussing quite actively while middle management was left in the dark. They probably already have an exact plan on how to put everything together, who to lay off, and so on.

This is normal. Most large companies have a corporate strategy department always looking for ways to improve or grow a business. Qualcomm stock has been knuckle dragging for almost two years. I think there is a lot of opportunity still here under the right circumstances.
