I have known this individual for a very long time. This person was funny, smart and could put a smile on your face. A real cool person. Today, my dearest colleague lost their job. I can't begin to understand why and how. It didn't make sense. When I started to ask more about the reasons all I could hear was silence or we don't understand how that happened. I even went see some of my upper level buddies to inquire. It was never the work and people really enjoyed my colleague. Management was not fond of my colleague. Not all, but enough of them to convince the senior groups to hit the layoff button. Wow. I just wished, the Senior team took the time to see this individual and their work. Stop relying on your direct reports and see for yourself. That is what the old guard use to do. I can't begin to tell you how mant times I would witnesse lies about an individual to give them a bad rating or forgo a promotion. When you fight back, you are doomed. This has to stop but it will not. I also felt, my dearest colleague needed a new start. The humiliation of what was done made me think of Colgate-Palmolive’s as a cold place. If they could do that to someone I knew, how many more. Well, I have an answer. It was too many. We talk about innovation and big hits. ..but from what I can see, how can that happen when your senior leaders are getting rid of their best and most efficient workers.
When I hear thsee layoffs will continue, I have to start thinking, I will be next. People with two or three job responsibilities are already starting to stress aND look to other companies. Colgate has lost their moral compass and it will never be the same again.
Good Luck and God Bless My Dearest colleague. Colgate did not deserve you.
