Talent retention?

The supply chain meeting yesterday was just another display of a totally disconnected leadership.

Someone asked about talent retention. What talent? They hired way too many folks that just act as distractions and are Kardashian like socialites.

I put over 20 years into this company and feel like a total clown today. They hand everything to people that spend their days hanging out at this adult day care center. I never got the memo that casual Friday is now a day off.

How do you identify talent when you don’t rank folks?

I got an idea! Leadership loves data why don’t you take your computer access policy serious and run reports to find the folks that just cruise the web. There is your first round of unproductive people out the door.

@Alg - For someone who left GE, your punk a-- sure has a vested interest in what we surf at work and thumb drives. This is why you are simply a f---ing troll. No one making $200k gives a flying f--- about this site, nor has the time to. Run along now dipshit, sell your “hardware” to Semens - yes, Semens, as in man juice. They aren’t buying sh-- either. I’ll just sit back and insert my thumb in your wife’s a-- while I’m banging her from behind.

Remember also that they have set up Box to not allow anything to be deleted and more. Anything you upload to Box and then move to trash will stay there forever (or until they stop paying BoxCo). You can't empty the trash either. Also, your manager is automatically given ownership of every file there that you owned upon termination.

Because of this, I am not duplicating any of my essential work documents to Box. If my hard drive fails, I'm out of luck, but if they lay me off, no one else will be able to pick up my pieces and continue like nothing happened. They will need to start from zero.

Good project for the data analytics teams, to write algoithms to parse business use from trash. Hey, remember hat when you leave, they have no issue pulling out every email you send outside GE and asking a you about all attachments and wether they have GE proprietary info. They'll need a lot of man hours soon just to try and protect their property from leaving with all the people who are about to be let go.

gvj..thanks...first time someone actually confirmed there is a log that get reviewed. Anyway you cut it if GE wants to build a case against they can. Most people try to comply with reasonable internet use. I recall a kiddy p--n case that landed a young engineer on the unemployment line. It first involved his personal computer being serviced at CompUSA that turned into witch hunt of this his work computer. Then there was a union designer downloading p--n and converting files to large autocad files or UG files. Yes, all this crap went down at GE but it was years ago.

In a nutshell it is the perfect adult day care center. I worked in Greenville for GE for a few years. Plant manager kept talking about integrity and the self-proclaimed GE religion called the spirit something.

I used to get a log of internet activities for the folks working in my org. There was a workflow to push it upstream if there was an issue. Plant manager said unless one of your guys is in the top 10 don't worry.

Moved on to Textron, similar issues different flavor. Thought about returning to GE to be closer to family. Guess I will watch how all the bad news resolve themselves.

@rlr no one has ever been fired from GE for browsing the internet. As I said, only if there is a pre-existing reason would GE even look at your usage.

RYV, you are right ...I can't read ..time for me to sell some hardware to your competitor , named MHPSA and Siemens, who spooling up to kick GE's A$$. You keep wasting your time surfing this site and not concentrating on getting the hell out of there. Talk all you want about racking and stacking ...and computer use. Big brother GE has nothing better to do than watch U ! That is why the alarms go off when you plug in a thumb drive.

@vod, hate to break it to you, Internet traffic is monitored and tracked by SSO. Only with HR’s permission does select management and security have access to x# of days traffic reports from the proxy filter showing what sites you’ve been busy on. At one time there was even a workflow to request it.

@alg you have reading comprehension issues if you think anyone here said all internet usage is legit at GE. In fact, just the opposite was stated. No way someone who can’t read makes $200k, lol!

Hey vod ...I am not a blue collar worker. I make close to $200 K per year cause I left that sh-- hole. I don't care what you say. GE workers do not use their computers for all legit business. IF GE WANTS TO FIRE YOU they will. Let me guess you are logged in via smart phone right now ? Why, cause your a$$ is worried about being fired. Are you hooked in via wifi..? No damn way.

No those are not legit dumba$$. But they are impossible to sort out of the mass of legit heavy traffic. I don’t expect you to understand, being a blue collar schmuck. Go turn a wrench or sweep or something.

So let me get this straight ...bkc

Surfing Indeed and Linkedin looking for jobs is a legitimate use? I used to work a$$ clown. Half the place used to look for what car to buy next. What I am saying is those days are over. If they want to fire you for surfing the net ..they can. Don't blow smoke bull_shit artist. Get back to work making my stock price move!

You do realize that GE computers are used constantly to access the internet for legitimate business needs, right? If “alarms” went off, someone would be very busy trying to sort out tens of thousands of uses every hour/day. The truth is that yes GE can monitor, but it is very selectively used for cases where there is a problem already identified and they are gathering evidence. GE is not smart enough, nor willing to pay enough to monitor all internet traffic on their network.

sorry but the days of cruising the web are done at GE ..alarms go off when you open browsers..

But you certainly can browse via smart phone. Surprised they have not banned smart phones, ipads from the workplace.

Anyway...cruising the interwebs as "gas monkay garage owner would say" via GE provided hardware is not a smart move. Racking and stacking does not work either beyond a two year cycle. Who seriously wants to work for GE anyway??

They don't targets unproductive people. Its based on what area and what role they don't need which is more based on who knows who and age as they have to get many under 40 to make it not look biased
