Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

They are laying off teams before the new systems work

Are you guys seeing this around the company? They are laying off support teams in our area before the systems to replace them work reliably.

OR they lay off teams with no idea what they do only to find out, "Crap! We didn't think this through. We need people to do these things we didn't know they took care of." So they've been trying to sluff that off on the folks remaining and now stuff just isn't getting done. It's falling through the cracks.

Oh well. I'm sure the VP over replenishment, planning, BA, and what's left of pricing is going to use his cost savings to get another promotion. It'll only be after stuff really gets messed up that they figure out they made a mistake.

Walmart isn't going to be opening hardly any new locations. So the real estate thing isn't shocking.

I look for major changes in logistics next. More cuts in ISD. And further trimming at the Sam's and Walmart HQ. I believe they will cut until something breaks. Then they will figure out where they need to add back people.

I think the next thing they will start doing more of is to close unproductive stores.

You should read up on what happened to other retailers as they hit the end of their growth phase. If you had done that, none of this would be a surprise.

There was a layoff yesterday of 120. My sister got hit with it. She was in the middle of a store set up or remodel in Ohio and they just walked in and asked for her badge and told her that she was laid off. Said she has like 60 days to find another position in the company and then she’s out. She’s mind blown right now-didn’t see it coming.

Wait? So they fired people only to have to offer them their jobs back when the remaining associates (or the contractors) couldn't fix our systems?

Wow...

Gee. It sounds like these headcount cutting agencies are doing such a good job in their recommendations about what headcount to cut.

Couple that with leadership that doesn't understand what their people do, what actually needs to be done, and how the work gets done, and you have a recipe for organizational chaos.

And people wonder how Walmart got behind in dot com. I have no words.

I’d heard of laid off tech associates being recalled to work on applications and systems that were live and being kept in place. But the “other” IT folks in “other” locations could not figure out the code.

And if those that were recalled declined (in a very professional attitude- I’m sure) were told they’d have the severance package withheld or reclaimed in some way or fashion.

Probably rumor mill. But heard it happened to multiple folks in different team areas of our ISD.

Home Office, always starts programs without thinking it though, that’s always been

“the way!” It doesn’t matter what it is.
