Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Management at State Farm is focused on all the wrong things

SF Systems Is the biggest snake pit that I have ever encountered! That is more so the focus than doing the right things for their company and employees.

I worked there for 7 very miserable years witnessing this! Never once in 7 years in any Executive level discussions did I hear reference on what the impact to the policyholder or customer would be. No consideration at all!

They are focused on ALL of the wrong things.... to survive they need to advance their technology, provide convenience to their customer and lower their operational costs. Basic principles they still have yet to grasp. Not to mention the complete joke of having a Bank! The Banks customers are limited to SF employees only. What a waste of money spending oodles of $ to satisfy regulatory and compliance. Dump the bank, dump your inept technology leaders and start rebuilding your business!

Posted by @PXIjTXS-gxl, bumped for being completely on point, especially about the bank part.

We should outsource our IT work and focus on being an Insurance Company.

Lots of people don't understand that the Bank needs to be a focus more than ever. The insurance side is going to be leaning on it in the transition years to come.

While I am very unhappy with what's happening at SF, this post is wrong, and regarding the Bank it's an outright lie. I've been in Systems for over 15 years, and the number one problem has always been a lack of cooperation between the lines of business regarding the central management of data. All of the tech advancement will not help if everyone isn't on the same page.

As for the Bank, let's just say I have had a great deal of involvement with Bank, and saying that it's only SF employees is just an outright lie (and if you could see their numbers, you would see that it is statistically impossible).

I understand bitter, and even haters, but I can't tolerate liars.

I was recently handed my walking papers and told that I could either apply for another job within the company or sever on March 31st. I've decided to sever. I'm not going to even bother trying to get another job with the company. Why? Because I don't want to work here anymore.

Less than a decade ago, it was a really good place to work, but then came ICP. At any other company, the leaders responsible for that multi-billion dollar waste would have been chopped long ago, their heads sent careening down the boulevard.

Those "leaders" pushed us into full-on retraction mode. It's going to be an ugly place to work for many years. Possibly forever. This is the new reality, State Farm employees. My advice is to get out. This is not your father's State Farm.

I personally enjoyed hearing Oakley repeat on multiple occasions that State Farm is a technology company. Then seeing Pettit, Jurovic, Fields, Fleming etc. all nod their heads in sync. That was funny on so many different levels.

  1. You need to know and understand you are an Insurance and Financial Services company.

  2. You would seriously be the most laughable technology company that ever existed with your antiquated legacy environment.

I just wasn't comfortable drinking the kool aide anymore.... lemonade or any other flavor!

I wonder when they will doosh the pensions... They should shut the whole studio down. Level the behemoth and foster the little startups.

They’re in a real panic now, the “survivors” are now going to have to prove just how useful they are to The Headsman, Foaod.

Once the great sifting is done, the managers remaining will make old Nick Machiavelli blush. They will be used to reave the ranks of the workers. Usefulness in “coding” will not be high in their consideration. Honestly, when has it been justly used in the last fifteen years? And by which managers, the few decent, or the ones that they will retain? So, worker bee, you can either get a season pass to Medici’s and purse those lips, or jump now while the jobs and real estate markets aren’t entirely flooded.

Management is afraid to pioneer anything...fear of having any kind of negative marks on their record. Systems needs a thorough cleansing. Maybe when they get through this purge they might be a game winning department...it will be interesting to see.
