Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

The meaning of uncertainty.

The uncertainty in the workplace means this:

Will I be able to continue paying for my house payment? Electrical bill, phone service, water, sewer and trash, my kids school functions, ( dance class, homecoming expenses, prom dress, a trumpet for band, school clothes, and all the other school activities that become expensive.) will I be able to make my car payment? Realestate tax. Uncertainty in the work place could affect health care, health insurance, buying for Christmas for my family.

We all have a lot to think about. We need to have a back up plan, incase it gets ugly. A few friends in the work place I know, are young, no kids yet, and can start over anywhere. Those of us with kids at home must do what is best for our families.

I have a lot to think about, to strategically make a sound decision. Good luck to all of us. Let's figure out what is best for those that live under the our roof/ family. God bless you and me and our co-workers. We will do the best we can.

I left on my own. But stuck it out because I liked the atmosphere, (talking hunting/fishing, etc), the discount and I kept believing that my hard work would lead to a promotion, that never came. I realized I was stuck in a dead end job. I was lucky to leave when I did and I was able to get my house sold before the housing market crashed!

I am curious did you jump ship when by your own choice or the employer?

We're glad you're done too! A couple of years after Cabela's and you just can't seem to move on...what's up with that?

You have got to be kidding me with Cabela's being worried about this site causing problems for Sidney and Cabela's!!!! Poor management and lies have destroyed Cabela's and Sidney!!!!! I have said before and I will say it again, more rumors floating the halls and break rooms at corporate than what had been posted on this site! I jumped ship a couple years ago after spending over 15 years with Cabela's. Looking back at my time, more lies where told to keep employees distracted than I care to mention. Glad I'm gone!

Sure is a lot of talk to get around the question if you are an employee of the merged company between bass pro and Cabelas,

First of all, good luck to everyone. Second of all, if you think all is well, you are severely naive. People posting "negative stuff" on this site are probably trying to look out for people. If it's negative, then people get upset that we are not having faith...if it's positive they get bashed for being koolade drinkers.

Coming from a person who has been through 2 layoffs and a restructure, you should be looking for a new job. Common sense says so but I can understand why the blinders are on.

This is business, people, nothing matters but money.

Plus, if BP doesn't get their stuff together and realize what the future is, you will be out of a job anyway. Start looking elsewhere!!!

Consider the source - of course they would prefer to have us believe that all the negative comments are from people who are no

Longer there - not true - this assists us in being aware- unfortunately leadership and hr wants us to believe what they do or do not say

I think it would help this site if you would state if you are a current employee or a laid off or fired Cabelas employee, to be honest every meeting I have been to at work at Cabelas a discussion of the merger, when this site is bought up . everyone believes the negative post on this site it is from a angry ex employee who is trying to get back ar Cabelas

There will be major changes - many of us have known this for several years - many have refused to believe that this day would come and it will be very painful although better now to start thinking next step that simply hoping this will magically be great. They won't. Sure - Tommy looks happy as he should he just sold us off for a King's fortune - now we must all figure how we are going to provide for our families an find a place to live. It is an opportunity for all of us.

I do not feel you were trying to be rude. Yes, all of this has been weighing on me for months; however, today it hit me hard. I need to have a plan B. I need to find stability. I need to get rid of the uncertainty, and find a balance. The burden of uncertainty has weighed heavy on me, possibly I tried to ignore it, or hoped it would get better. I feel uncertain now. I had a wake up call!

Suddenly, that 50K SUV bought on a 6 year loan doesn't seem like such a good plan. And wait until you try to sell or trade it in, where you will find out that you've been paying nothing but interest due to such a long loan term.

Can you say "Negative Equity" boys and girls?

Yes, that's where YOU PAY THEM to take it off your hands.

LOL!!

I think a thought of people didn't believe this would happen and believed what management told them. The city also needs to wake up.

I'm sorry for the current situation and I'm hope I don't sound rude, but why are you just thinking about this right now???? Cabela's has been in terrible shape for several years along with the BP offer on the table. It didn't matter if if the BP deal was approved or not, Cabela's and Sidney was in trouble, regardless. Again thinking about your future and your families well-being/lifestyle is something you should have been thinking about months, if not years ago.
