Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

I believe it has to do with the EarthLink merger.

Windstream doesn't care if we have to work harder. They can go out on their yachts and to heck with the rest of us. It's sad how many people they are letting go.

I believe it has to do with the EarthLink merger. I've heard they kept all those employees. If that is the case they could've been training those employees for our jobs. Nobody is safe even departments that got hit recently.

Are you people really so short sighted that you didn't see this coming the moment the merger was announced?

There were maybe 5 off-site earthlinkers, and a building in GA and one in ROCH- which have been heavily hit with layoffs since the mergers. The last of the Best people for support have been let go. So if you're looking for support for them, sadly, youre out of luck. The dregs: the ones who refuse to help and refuse to do work are still around, so hey, go for it.

Elink put WIN to shame. CEO's want the big $$$, and merging to get a big piece of the cash, and let someone else guide the train into the station. In the corporate world, you're either a big dog who does nothing and profits, or your'e expendable.

@PnD7Q1R-ffh: regarding part of your statement, "If you're the best at what you do you're safe. You can argue about that all you want but it's absolutely true."

That's a naïve and gullible belief: I was the best in my department, with a BA degree, with more analytical and process development experience and I was let go. The reason I was let go was due to politics. My manager wanted to save herself and her favorite employee. Good people are let go during every lay off cycle when weak, selfish, ego-driven management is involved.

Former Earthlinker here. After 14 years I got let go today by a Windstream manager who never took the opportunity to meet me face to face. My peers considered me one of the best in my position and I was the guy people came to for difficult situations, but I didn't have a piece of paper that several of the guys I trained have, so I got the axe.

I've been here for 13 years and I agree entirely with @PnD7Q1R-lxx - too many whiners. Everything is always someone else's fault. Every time I see someone say "I watched a really good worker get let go today" what I hear is "A good friend of mine got let go today". If you're the best at what you do you're safe. You can argue about that all you want but it's absolutely true. As for the Earthlink people, the ones I've met that were asked to stay were SIGNIFICANTLY stronger candidates than the ones they replaced. Oh and when you say "I heard...." what I really hear is "Here's my opinion, I have nothing to base it on, so I'm going to say I HEARD it somewhere." You didn't hear that anywhere, but nice try.

The best thing for this company would be to get rid of all legacy Windstream employees...They clearly only know how to work in their little box and have no ability to show any kind of empowerment or think for themselves...Constantly asking permission for every little decision that needs to be made slows everything down...then they whine because all of their terrible work friends get laid off...1 decent worker on the free market can get done in a day 3x the work legacy Windstreamers can.

you're completely wrong. but keep imagining things because that's a good justification for your paranoid feelings. a lot of ELNK employees lost their jobs immediately, and a lot more have gotten cut each and everytime theres layoffs... if you really look at it, ELNK was actually on the rise until they decided to merge with WIN.... but keep blaming other people.

Not true - legacy EartLink folks have been, and continue to be, hit very hard by layoffs. People who have been here for over 15 years just walked out the door without any notice.
