Did someone say Netapp should buy Cisco? Cisco is a $165 billion company at current stock price. With a premium thrown in Netapp would need ~$180 billion. How is that going to happen unless Kurious George hits the kids college fund!! ;-)
Cisco is on the decline with no innovation in sight. Other than selling the same old network devices, but soon 100GB, they are working on AI network security as their only means of staying relevant. The market really does care about either because it's many years away. In the meantime they will be struggling...hard.
NetApp should buy Cisco, however the distant partnership they have going is good enough. NetApp doesn't need the Cisco baggage. The transformation has already dumped enough to make them move forward. Dealing with Cisco garbage would be a step back.
Cisco buying NetApp is the dumbest unfounded rumor ever. There is next to zero logic in it and it's just something clueless people say.
Spoiler: Next Rumor -> Oracle will acquire NetAppp
If you are Cisco, are you worried that someone else buys NetApp and you are stuck with Pure Storage? Cisco needs to show shareholder value and has a boatload of cash. Buying NetApp, they get half of their investment that NetApp already has in cash so it makes some sense
Agree that this rumor surfaces pretty much every year. Given NetApp's current market cap of 11.5 B it would be by far the largest acquisition in the history of Cisco. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_acquisitions_by_Cisco_Systems
Very unlikely in my opinion. NetApp was much cheaper in early 2016 and that would have been the time for Cisco to acquire NetApp when the stock was close to $20/share. Rumor was that NetApp was shopping itself like Pure is doing now. Things may be better for NetApp, but why buy a company with single digit growth when you can just continue to partner with them??
Cisco potential acquiring NetApp is not an exciting proposition and I'm grateful it's highly unlikely.
Cisco "Should" buy NetApp. Pure Storage HAS actively searched for a buyer.
Srini Nandury founded Summit Redstone which is the research firm cited. That said, he seems to have had a lousy record of giving investment tips with a rating success rate of 44%. If you bought on his advice, your portfolio should now have a return of -6.2%.
And yes, he said "Cisco SHOULD buy NetApp" which comes across as wishful thinking. Maybe he took a position in CSCO and is searching for some way to boost his holdings.
Same rumor comes and goes. Fresh meat netapp employee does a google search and catches wind of it for the first time then gets excited. Happens all the time.
That article has no credibility or sources. Barrons? Summit redstone? Unamed sources? Inside contacts? Some random indian name? Please. Only a dimwit would believe any of that. Reads like a typical liberal cnn story.
11 years ago was what got the stock to 60+. Not bad. Lol
I started at NetApp in 2006. I heard Cisco was going to acquire us in 6 months. That same smoke blows every year and it hasn't happened in the last 11 years.
RTFM much? If you read the article someone said "Cisco should buy NetApp".
How many times have we heard this?
I heard that Pure employees sit during the national anthem.
Shocker Pure is shopping themselves. It's comparable to selling a terd sandwich though.
