Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Cutting personnel will not save money in the long run

Broad cutting personal is not the way to save money. Losing talent and knowledge will only make the ship sink faster. Use the employees you have more effectively- cut from the top.

The way to save money is to strategize and implement processes that will keep students engaged and in attendance. Attended meeting this week and enrollment in two psych programs is being put off- to determine pricing structure (per PC). Sure, by the time January rolls around, we will have more expensive programs and less staff to help increase student retention.

Pretty much this, @PhtcdzO-1rzh. It has been proven over and over that cutting essential personnel only provides a short-term bump and long-term loss, and yet this seems to be the only thing UOP knows how to do. Until this state of mind is completely changed, we will see no progress.

It is difficult to teach a section because by the time an instructor gets "one" in a year, BlackBoard Ultra is so far away from being a known platform that it is almost impossible to use it. Add 40+ students at minimal wages and it's unworkable

Hearing rumors that layoffs will hit the student services department on Friday 9/22. Does anyone know if there is any truth in that?

I take it back re the removal of comments. I found them on the "Faculty Communities"of Phoenix connect. The thread is "Re: $50 / student"

I found the comments on the UoP site --- My logon is still valid. I just tried looking again but can't find the comments --- either I'm not looking at the right place or the comments/complaints have been removed. I thought they were on the PhoenixConnect thread --- but I can't find them now.

Not unusual --- negative comments at UoP did seem to disappear when I was active there.

Anyone here that understands PhoenixConnect? Is it for faculty and students? Is there a forum for only faculty? I never did understand the "new, improved" software.

Former Instructor, what other board is there?

I saw on another board that some online classes have 30 or more students! Not that long ago class sizes were 12 - 15. Then with eCad (enhanced curriculum and development) the size was bumped up to 15 - 20. 30+ is unbelievable. Instructors are making minimum wage, at best, so the good ones will find something better. Or instructors will have to skimp on instruction. Either way, the product (education) goes 'way down.

I agree hundred percent . I have been in meetings with the VPs in which the whole time they're texting someone to get the answers to the questions that are being posed . Do they give any credit to the people answering these questions ? The answer is no . They take all the credit. I used to be able to contact certain departments for answers but in many cases those personnel have been laid off /RIF'ed or have resigned. So fed up.
