Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Still too many useless managers!

Even after laying off over 50k people, SLB is the finest example of "top-heavy" organization. Paal and minion executives, when are you going to fix this problem? Wait! you need to fix your own problem first!

As mentioned by others before, this company still has managers with only 1~2 in their reporting line. Many of them are well-known s*ck-ups with big mouth and no real contribution. Also, if you look at SETC and SDR, you can easily find many other useless managers. Of course, SLB management won't do anything about it. This is one of the reasons why the company doesn't really have bright future.

They can just fire all the managers and hire contracts from Accenture or IBM, which will save cost and boost efficiency.

Oil service companies are full of the dregs of society and many of them are so-called managers. You need to have skin like rubber, dismiss logical arguments in favour of the mob opinion, work with people who are thick as wood or have the capacity to stab your grandmother to work in this environment. I am doing well in this business but I hate every minute of it.

Sym, pk as ceo, has one and only one objective and that is taking care of investors, after all every ceo works for investors, fact!

  • every manager has some direct reports which he/she likes to keep and they will be safe for a while, only a while, fact!

  • small gnags and mafias, i.e. Boli-va-rians, specifically Ven-ez-uelan is been top management challenges, mostly protected with contracts back home! Fact!

  • shuffling managers is one method for detecting mafias in management and slb just started it, fact!

-slb is been through several downturns and they know how to handle downsizing, only problem is this time it takes longer just because size is bigger, fact!

  • slb is strong company and knows how to react so rest assure most of these useless junks will be gone soon, give it a year, unless oil jumps to 100 and process slows down!!! fact!

  • I agree with you, there are countless inefficient people, managers to tell managers to tell managers to get something done by an engineer! Fact!
