Thread regarding Qorvo layoffs

Separation

Some of us have been working there 14+ years and because we are near 50 yrs old that makes us eligible. So they are going to get rid of some hard working good employees who do their jobs to help the company make money and keep the younger ones who are using the system to finish getting a degree at some level and who do not work hard anyway and some of them will graduate and move on, but they would rather disrupt a faithful employees life and job, who has given them a lot of hours doing what they want, just to get rid of the older people.

What criteria are they using because I know some around same age and same amount of years who should also be eligible, but they did not receive an email about it, so what is making them any different from the rest of us who have gotten the dreaded email??

And if we don't take it, does that mean we are still going to be layed off because we received the eligibility email? I pray that enough people who really want to leave the company for whatever their reasons may be, that they have enough to not have to lay off anyone.

This is b.s. there is so much work going thru right now and they want to get rid of good hard working people..at least give the managers a chance to weed out their bad ones who do not do anything productive. If anyone knows can you please let us know if we will still be layed off just because our name is on a list and they sent us the email about VSP.

I can't stop crying just thinking about losing my job...i love my job and my department and the people and I work hard and earn all of my money,

Anyone else getting weekly updates with your manager? Our site is pretty much done with it, we get it, it's been 3 weeks 1 meeting a week, now let me do my job. Sorry it is hard for you, it really blows for all the people at the different sites. This industry is always laying off, learn a new trade or get certified in something, I don't know, just hope you'll be okay

Sad part is most employees know nothing about finance. For all high-paying high-tech employees, if you earn a good income in the 30s, try branching out and investing on other business and you will learn some basic finance.

This company has $3B revenue and $1B gross profit, but after paying employees and research it negates all the profit.

Look at the number of employees, a startling 8700! A company with $1B hires almost 9000 people. Regardless of the area the business is in, the number of employees is overwhelming. There are plenty of companies with over $1B GP with less than 4000 employees. And the reason because the top management too slow and too late in executing mergers or buyout whatever you want to call. Many other industries are much more brutal in mergers and layoff 30% the first day of merger.

Offering VSP to older and senior employees is age discriminating. However does anyone sue health insurance companies for that? After the introduction of Obama care, companies buying health insurance need to allocate 30% more budget for insuring employees. It gets much worse (40%-60% extra) for companies with older employees. You won't notice this until you are self-employed earning middle class income and you will find out paying $15K annually on health insurance and you still have an impossible $13K deductible. A company easily spend $20K to $30K per employee just to keep the deductible down. Companies are more willing to offer education for young and healthy ones than paying for the extra insurance for older people.

Technically, we aren't supposed to be discussing such things in a public forum because of the documents we signed when we got hired on. Just saying.

Yes we can't change it if it happens, but it is just harder for some people while others handle it better. I think the panic is coming from maybe the ones with their job being the only income they may have coming in so it is scary for them, while others may have two incomes coming in their home so if you lose one you still have the other, these others will have that. I just hope and pray it works out good for everyone, they get the volunteers they need and no one will need to lose their job. Everyone there is in our prayers.

I too got an offer, but I didn't consider it a "dreaded" email. The compensation package is greater if you accept VSP than if you get laid off. No, receiving the offer does not mean you will get laid off. I'm not going to accept the VSP but I perform my job well so hopefully I won't get laid off. I guess I'm having a hard time understanding someone crying & being so upset about something that hasn't taken place yet. There is no need to get stressed out about it because we can't change it. If I get laid off, I will just accept it and move on. Although I'm 59, and most places won't hire me at this age, my life will go on because God will provide. It definitely will not be the end of the world.

I think @PHb2u1F is just scared that this was so sudden, they are just angry right now and worried about their job...some people tend to lash out at others when scared. Everyone makes the company what it is, young and old, so now is when everyone needs to be a friend and comforting until this is over with.

It is the worrying about it that stinks, wish they had not told us yet until after the volunteers..

For sure they are just trying to get volunter first. Many of the temp employees will follow and then employees with disciplinary and attendance issues. Low performers will follow that group. If you don't fit any of those categories, you should be fine.

Best news I have heard in awhile. All the old uneducated timers will be feeling the pain very soon. So much for the Triquint family about time they got rid of dead over paid weight. One comment above is so true if your a top performer you have nothing to worry about. If your the typical long time employee who just happens to show up to work everyday but no real added value. Take the money and start working those sh--ty temp jobs for Intel.

This is true, the bottom line is that if you are a top performer, chances of losing your job are slim.

Why are you taking shots at younger employees? Plenty of older employees in the fab not worth a damn. The younger employees have families as well and so what if they are choosing to go to college. Qorvo isn't paying you out of some sort of future loyalty or karma you have built up, it's paying you for the work you are currently doing. Don't take shots at younger employees for trying to better their lives and support their families. Be salty at Qorvo, not them.

Just because you got the VSP it does NOT mean you are getting laid off.
