Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Deloitte isn't the only consultant doing reviews - enter PwC

Been reading on here and saw a post asking if anyone else's area had been audited/reviewed by Deloitte. The idiot that leads our department (in Corporate Tax) told us that PwC would be coming in to do a "tax effectiveness" review. Since this moron is known for doing this kind of crap at his previous employers to the point their departments weren't functional, and he has either fired or forced a number of our senior managers and directors out the door, I figure he's looking to hack up our department. my fellow staff associates are concerned, and most of our senior manager's distrust of the directors and vp is now off the charts. everyone is looking to leave, myself included!

Our team in ISD just had a "Disaster Recovery Audit" performed by Deloitte. Is this the same audit everyone else is talking about? They really just asked about a few specific tools, source code locations, and impact if they were down.

Seemed pretty routine at the time.

Tax just hired a new director, from some rich oil company in the Midwest. The Poor basterd probably doesn't know what he's in for (or maybe he does and just needed a job.) Either way, he'll likely lose the rest of his hair and will be on anxiety and blood pressure meds in no time flat. Because that is how WM Tax, Finance and Treasury thanks you for your time and service. Oh, and let's not forget their "amazing" leadership, all of whom were hired because of their limitless tax knowledge and leadership skills! (Sarcasm intended.)

To the tenured associate (and others in Finance, Tax and Treasury) who are nearing retirement: Hang in there. And if your health, personal life, etc. start going to hell as a result of the stress you're enduring, get the hell out, ASAP. I know that some are trying to "wait out" the current leadership; however, they may be sticking around for a while. Sure, you may lose your lousy 10% discount; or not get the cute going away party, where these slime-ball leaders pat you on the back and say things they truly don't mean; however, you'll be better off physically, spiritually, and occupationally. Keep the Faith!!

Did this "Idiot" also have a stand up meeting and tell you to be excited about the effiencies audit? Mine did. Not like we aren't smart enough to hear the correct words, "you could be next". We are constantly told that Walmart wants "a world class" tax organization. But NEVER tells you what that is? I just keep praying I can make it another 5-6 years for retirement. I am scared. Everyday I fear could be my last. I didn't know Mr Sam, but I truly feel like there is NO security in Walmart.

I come from a time that if you did a good job, your job was there. Now we are just numbers not people.

Working in the WM Tax, Finance and Treasury Dept. used to be a badge of honor; now it's a mark of shame. The word has gotten out (no thanks to social media😀) that this is a "churn and burn" environment, where loyalty is no longer appreciated and back stabbing canivery is encouraged. This "leader" we keep referring to was only hired because he and the former EVP were "separated at birth" (not literally, but use your imagination and read between the lines.) Both rose to the top, not through hard work and knowledge; but through politics, slick talk and the use of Big 4 consultants, who gave them the answers they clearly couldn't provide themselves. Unfortunately, these "leaders" are not alone; there are hundreds (if not thousands) of others, just like them, who are destroying this company, one cut at a time.

Actually they are there to assess the situation and figure out what they need to get from Associates before laying them off.

Sound like we are outsourcing our way to a higher SG&A.

This "study" will not end well for the associates left behind. One suspects that this "leader" is using this study to hide his/her gross incompetency, and to instill fear. Remember: These Big 4 Bozos will charge WM $300-500 an hour for information they could've gotten themselves; IF they had taken the time to talk to their associates (wow, what a concept-where's my $500 per hour??)

thats exactly what PwC, Deloitte, KPM and McKinsey are there for, disrupt what is already functioning well and then offer consultancy on fixing a non-functional department.
