Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

The whole company is corrupt management getting free vacations, tools being stolen on a daily basis. Managers using their company credit cards to pay for fuel for their boating trips, maintaince being billed to ConocoPhillips for their personal things and the list goes on and on. Yet those are the people that seem to be getting promoted. They are worried about money but their own employees are stealing from them on a daily basis.

I had tickets to some of the Astros playoff games including Game 5 of the World Series! Oh, No company’ or contractor funds were used, I bought the tickets, never mind. Also, i’m Retired! Just think, I could have had tickets given to that if the tickets slid down a long way, not very likely though!

This reminds me of another 2 night hunting expedition planned by a vendor in November for a L48 BU. Is it considered modest gift? Just asking, can’t say it at work with fears of being fired 🙄.

I was almost certainly targeted for layoff as a result of choosing my integrity above games. I don't regret my decision one bit. If we choose to go along with it we're as bad as those higher ups who condone and promote it.

The number of scraps were very few when I left, but it was sickening how the leaders seemed to like to sit back and watch the dog fights they generated when they chucked a few goodies onto the floor.

I was asked by a vendor to go on a morning duck hunt worth about $150. I did not ever use this company as a vendor as I was in a different department but a friend of mine needed a hunting partner. I asked and was denied. About 6 months later I saw some pictures of a trophy elk being passed around and also mounted in a home. I found it is was one of the s--- ups in the group. I asked him and he got full blessings to go and was even told he didn't have to log two days of vacation from that trip. But, he is still there and I decided to leave. So you have to decide if you want to be a part of this. I decided that I won't play the stupid games and kept my integrity. Way too much of that over there. I can only imagine what it is like now that they are fighting for the scraps falling off of managements table.

I became aware of an ethics situation but a company higher-up was involved. I talked to a friend (external attorney), HR, and a company attorney before initiating the case. They all encouraged me to "do what was right". It did not end well.

Look the other way unless you are prepared to damage your career or get layed off in 2018. Company policy and rules do not apply for the higher-ups in the company.

To be excessive it must be given to a rank and file employee. Nothing is considered excessive if given to a "manager."

If someone received a ticket to an actual seat that could have otherwise been sold to someone else, that would be excessive but a private box costs what it does regardless of how many people are sitting in it (or even if it is empty - okay maybe add a little bit for catering with people). Not saying I endorse those things but the math is different.

1qpa is correct, different rules for peons and the "chosen". I know so many managers/supervisors who refuse to retire for the greater good (they know they are adding no value). They don't need the money, they stay for the perks- 1K United memberships, suite or diamond tickets to sporting events and definitely service company hunts and boondoggles and being treated like superior beings with a title etc etc.

There is apparently a sliding scale to what is acceptable depending on who lets you get away with it and how high up you are.

Addressing any sort of ethics concerns is a fast path to turn management against you. Unless this is affecting you personally, you should not get involved.

I was a contractor for many years for COP. I was required to give freebies to those moochers in order to keep working. When a certain supervisor, MH, told me that he wanted 10% of any business done with COP I declined and that was the beginning of the end....sorry baasterds
