Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Millennial bashing

I would normally consider myself above all this. However, considering the pervasive Millennial bashing on these fourms, I am compelled to comment.

It’s the older generation that has nearly ruined Mattel due to their astonishing lack of imagination and zero understanding of the new world we now live in. The rebalancing of staff needs to strongly favor Millennials if we are going to have a even a pinch of a chance.

It's funny - you read this thread and look at all the millennial-bashing and millennial-bragging and what seems to REALLY be the issue is that Mattel has attracted the lazy, entitled (extremely) millennials, while Hasbro and Spinmaster seem to have gotten the good ones.

Bottom line: We can't judge an entire generation by the low-talent, low-output youngsters we have in this company, when their friends are kicking butt elsewhere.

Are the Millennials still occupying the tower, or did they leave when M-go cut the free Peet's coffee, pizza and cell phone charger power?

Haha this is a fantastic read, thanks guys. I can only imagine most of you: 40, maybe almost 50, no kids, balding has commenced, tired with your dead-end job, seeing other people rise above you, so that every day you cannot wait to buy your sad dirty lunch, clumsily fit your large ‘non-entitled’, ‘worked-hard-for-this’ gut between you and your desk and finally get on thelayoff and get those greasy fingers on that keyboard to start bashing at whomever you are hating on this week. Episode 1: management. Episode 2: millennials. Really makes me feel better about my life - if ‘entitlement’ means not wanting to work a shtity job for 12 hours a day, so that 25 years later I can still be at the same job and I can go on some stupid ‘fourm’ to criticize other generation’s spelling and call them lazy to get back at them (for what? Taking your job cos they did it for less money and knew how to use a Mac?) then yes, i’m entitled af (read ‘extremely’)

This thread needs a bump. I'm thankful for having idiot management above and lazy millennials below to blame for this trainwreck of a company and work ethic. Us worker bees in the middle are doing a terrific job and clearly are not the problem!

Not happy with millenials as a whole for reasons mentioned below, but unfortunately can only blame my generation of Baby Boomers and Gen Xers for creating their sense of entitlement and disrespect of experience. We're responsible, guys.

On a relative basis, it is a fact millennials, on the whole, are absolutely lazy but I think in part b/c they have inflated sense of self...let's face it, participation trophies are their LEGACY...EARN does not seem a familiar concept to many, EXPECT is the attitude displayed...not entirely their fault...some stupid parent thought it was a good idea to reward their kid for showing up and standing on 2 feet, they think that means something, lucky us; this is the perspective many project...in their defense, they've been raised in a pretty screwed up world...and social media has really raised their depth; they are really informed, have great depth...HAHAHA...take plenty of selfies so you have a record of your wasted youth, whining and complaining...laziness, entitlement and disrespect seems their punishment for us. Amazed at how many MBAs I have encountered in the last 5 years who know little and have absolutely NO humility. They want their turn to speak and never listen, like they did with Mommy. I think many of them weren't taught manners so again not entirely their fault...we're to blame for the way we raised them...FRANKENSTEINS...if I never heard the term millennial again, I'd be so happy...such a worthless badge...so happy to be genx

OP is MIA! Too stunned by the avalanche of truth to croak any form of witty reply. Old age & skill triumphs over youth & entitlement again.

Older Generation - WORKS HARD

Millenbials - LAZY and ENTITLED

The older generation has nothing to do with where MATTEL is now - it all has to do with an unbalanced portfolio of product. But one thing is sure - Millennials might be smarter and more “in tune”, but they will never work hard enough to fix this or ANY company that needs a turnaround. Their brilliance is overshadowed and doomed by their own lack of work ethic. So sad.

ATTENTION MATTEL GAMES: I would SO buy a game called "Millennial Bashing" if it's anything like Whack-A-Mole. Entitled know-it-all Millennials randomly pop up and

it's your turn to beat some sense into them with the "Knowledge Hammer". Hand that out to employees as a Christmas bonus. Also makes a lovely dividend replacement for loyal stockholders. There's your BIG IDEA for 2018, now how do I get my 10 percent and lunch with the board? Lookie Mom, I'm a toy designer!

Wow! Millennials sure have over inflated opinions of their own self importance! Seems they forget who laid the ground work for all the systems and technology they are so adamant about taking credit for.... they also forget they lack experience and while they may have great ideas for the future there are many things that are tried and true when it comes to toys and raising children and running a business. It's the "new" management that is trashing this once great company not the old and apparently, your parents neglected teaching you respect! Yes, it's time for your nap!

Finger pointing goes across generation lines. So stupid that people look to blame groups instead of addressing real problems. I live in Los Angeles and the turnout for the last local election was just over 3 percent. Pretty certain that it was old and young alike that didn't vote.

i can recall many times in the past when “older” folks were looking at new technology (AR, VR, digital platforms, etc) and it was generally a millennial who shot down the concepts because of lead time in development and testing and overall laziness. it truly is the do nothing generation. they’re great at memes and online protesting but couldn’t get their lazy backsides out to actually vote. shmuck generation.
