Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Is GE severance negotiable?

The amount of severance is negotiable. GE typically offers 1 wk per year as a starting point.

I have seen it get as high as three weeks per yr of service. of course there is the urban myth of 4 wks per yr, but I haven't seen it.

Read this in another thread and it was the first time I heard about something like this. Has anybody actually managed to raise their severance? Is it really possible? Why would they agree to that?

Yes, you sign a waiver. Not sure about the 401k but I would guess that the waiver specifies future litigation, meaning post-layoff. That wouldn’t affect pending litigation.

Do you have to sign a waver not to sue to get the payout? What does that do to the 401K fund suit?

In the US only EB and above can negotiate

There is no negotiating room for severance in GE. There was a post here a couple days ago talking about how to negotiate saying you have a kid that needs surgery or other cry stories. False, everything is done by the numbers. I didn't bother replying to it because it was such troll-bait. Yeah but you aren't EB are you?

Can’t hurt to try I suppose, but I find it hard to believe they’d do anything more/less than the exact same plan for everyone below EB. Seems that to do otherwise might introduce an opening for litigation.

Totally agree. Do not negotiate. Just take your money and run.

I find it difficult to believe that an average employee would have the negotiating position to gain additional severance. HR made it clear yesterday the severance is 1 week per yr.
