Mexico won't be an option, plant is very small without that expertise as Belfast or Ardmore, still battling with all leftovers from Edmonton and Smith closure in Rankin, they don't even know how to make a full Liner hanger package, parts are all purchased to US suppliers, like Sand Control, all purchased, I won't if that Center would be next?
Shop floor will be gone. Most of the office will be gone and very few will want to take the move to Mexico or China.
What can the unions do? Kick scream and stamp their feet. If a product line or plant is non profitable it won't stay in the UK.
The drop in value of the pound and the risk related to dropping out of the customs union makes the viability of the plant even more questionable...
This is not the first full scale closure in the UK and it won't be the last.
Same happened in Stonehouse.
Telescope operations moved to China and shopfloor team made redundant.
Unions need to look into this madness and job losses in the UK
Worthwhile copy and pasting for the drones who will start bleating that jobs will be transferred.......
.'I have worked for this company for 20 years in Belfast and they have just came and closed it today Belfast is one of its best if not the best skill based machining shops that schlumberger has in the world which has been here for over 60 years so we must have been doing something right in N.Ireland we have sorry had a fantastic team of people here with a very high skill level which SLB will never get back 220 of us will be kicked into touch without a thought they don't care the big wigs will keep getting richer at the exspense of the people who actually make this company tick and by the way I'm just a normal cnc operator our team in Belfast will go with our heads held high. Shame on you SLB'.
I bet that all the management and engineers will be saved and the shop floor staff sacrificed
Where are they moving the product to? Mexico? China?
Paal is a high priced cheerleader, the stock price reflects his efforts.
Along with the recent news of Bombardier that is terrible news for Northern Ireland. Wish you all the best.
220+ job losses yet the Presidents still say next year will be a boom year....... however Schlumberger is not renowned for economic forecasting accuracy. Time to start stripping out the layers of management.
