Bass pro has been clear about what’s next. They stated that the headquarters will be in Missouri. The gravy train that was Cabela’s is over. The “stress and scare” will never be over if what you are referring to is a situation where corporate Cabela’s stays intact in Sidney and people keep their jobs. Yes, people depend on Cabela’s to take care of their families. It’s sad that a lot of people will be left without jobs and with homes they can’t sell. But, welcome to America where business dictates what happens, and you have to look out for yourself instead of staying loyal to a company. The people of Cabelas need to take their emotions out of this and take their blinders off. It has been fairly clear what is going on here for years now, And the longer people wait to face the reality of what’s clearly going on, the bigger of a mess and they are going to have to try to get out of.

what does 'nanny state' have to do with crony company run into ground by backwoods nincompoops?
Hire hunters that wear Camo and pretend to be Jim Bridger.....and theses phony wannabe's run your company in the ground......The Cabela's family will never have the class and professionalism as J M.....you got what you deserve Cabela's . .....enjoy
Lay all off management off ,they ran the company in the ground. BP doesn't need the bench warmers!
When I was interviewed by the hiring manager at Cabela's he barely asked me any questions about my last corp retail job. He started asking me about hunting...that conversation lasted for over an hour. Once with the company, I realized they hired a bunch of hunters who little to no knowledge about retail practices or product development. Some of these guys didn't have even basic math skills. (Like HS math) My manager thought he qualified to run the dept because of all of the big deer he killed. You can't grow a business with people like that at the helm.
I knew then I had made a mistake.
The people of Sidney have been living in that bubble for years though. People with minimal education were being promoted to high paying jobs not based on experience, education, knowledge, expertise but based on who they knew or who they’re related to. It was about protecting the jobs of the right people- not keeping up with the times or making smart business decisions. Cabela’s did operate in a way of that took care of the families and friends of the right people. This type of business would never happen in any sort of competitive business environment outside of a small town in the middle of nowhere. Probably the reason Cabela’s failed and also the same reason that people are still in denial of what has been going on for years. Many former employees of Cabela’s who didn’t spend a life or career being coddled by Cabela’s and Sidney were able to see this a long time ago and get out.
Honestly I think some people are holding on to bitter end, hoping BP offers a severance package to those that haven't left Sidney and won't relocate to Springfield.
1) Business owners start businesses to "take care of their families".
2) To expand their businesses, they hire others, who also want to take care of their families.
3) The best way for the owners to take care of their families is to ensure that those they hire are also able to take care of their families.
4) That thought process breaks down when a company goes public because now you bring in a whole heard of people that don't care about the success/failure of the company, the owner, or the employees...only about making a buck or two or a million.
5) Private companies have management structures in place to ensure the success of the company, which includes whether or not you agree, taking care of the employees...in turn allowing them to take care of their families.
6) Public companies have management structures in place to ensure the maximum value to the share holders, regardless of the success of the company.
The thought process of the previous poster is why Cabela's died. They lost the focus of employees and customers because of their focus on the shareholder.
Nanny state= Where people actually believe companies and governments are formed to take care of them by providing jobs.
This type of thinking is infantile and incredibly ignorant as well. These people truly don't understand that companies are there to make money, not take care of their families.
Hard to fathom that kind of stupidity.
