4th round of redundancies at Robertson (North Wales) CGG October 2017

Yet more staff are being removed from the North Wales consultancy site. 4th round in 3 years, and losing talented staff all the time. Naturally, no reductions in management. Desperate attempt at reorganisation last year has only accelerated the decline.

Wasn't the organisational restructuring done to appease the French Govt who gave CGG a grant for it, then CGG failed to carry it out on time. Government launched an investigation I heard. Bit of a no-no under EU rules

That is a very common trend in today's economy, keep the (obviously inefficient) managers and make the people that actually do the work redundant. It seems like the "managers" feel that they simply have to sit and "babysit" a shell company ( and collect a paycheck) until the much touted economic recovery happens and then workers will be hired, and the "managers" can then inefficiently manage again. But that's assuming that a recovery will happen and I don't see anybody predicting that in the near future with any confidence ( other than the "managers" ). "Well-positioned for the recovery" is how they put it.

Why doesn't CGG examine why they are now over 2 billion dollars in debt, and treat the real cause? Everybody who worked for CGG can produce a list of bad managerial decisions, the Fugro deal being a classic! But I guess that it's better to stick to the script and make the workers the fall guys ; protects the managers' egos.

I've been following CGG for the last year. The above comments on management and HR not being included in redundancies is a consistent theme for the UK operations.

Business analysis economics is very simple. Lots of people making money, few managers cntrolling the team, business makes money and everyone is happy. Reduce the ratio of those that make money to managers and the rate a business loses money increases and it is harder to recover the operation later as there is less skilled work force to pick up fee earning work.

IT IS ALWAYS THE CASE THAT TOP MANAGEMENT AND INDEED HR STAFF CHOOSE NOT TO MAKE THEMSELVES REDUNDANT.

REGARDING ROBERTSON U.K THEY WERE GIVEN £1 MILLION BY WELSH GOVERNMENT TO BE IN WALES IN ORDER TO SAVE JOBS!!!!!

DOUBT CGG/ROBERTSON U.K WILL BE OBLIGED TO PAY IT BACK.
