Thread regarding Sears layoffs

New POS

Looks like the execs will be raining in on more kick backs for the over priced POS system they will put in stores before they close. Funny thing is execs are so out of touch they think the POS is causing delays between transactions. Truth is no one is in the store and no one is buying anything.

That corporate person broke his silence to say that POS was coming in late 2018. A little late don't you think? There was supposed to be an update for Black Friday 2016 but it never happened. Stupid to roll out on a holiday weekend but it's a year later & now they're saying another year????

DOS programmer below is correct. The all DOS registers were superior in functionality. Our store still has one programmed that way for the tough jobs.

The slowness checking out is because of pushing every customer for 2 credit cards, SYW and protection plans plus challenging customers about prices. That's what slows down the checkout line.

Yes faster a faster pos to serve the 15 customers we have in a day faster. But don't forget them to sign up their email address, buy the overpriced protection plans, sears credit card, syw, etc. What did we save nothing. I've had people sat fu and leave as they don't want any of stuff sears has as added to the sale at the pos. They just want to checkout and that's it. Does walmart and target hound their customers the way that sears does? Kohls?

A new POS? I started with Sears ten years ago and the POS worked well. A text based interface, everything could be done without moving your fingers off the keyboard. The underlying operating system was DOS which meant that it loaded fairly quickly and the software ran quickly. Then came the great "upgrade" to Linux which bogged things down because type ahead went away and there was a perceptible delay every time that the screen changed. The death knell was the next "upgrade" to the GUI. Moving your hand from screen to keyboard back to screen slows things down. The slow OS didn't help any.

Look at Sears competitors, Home Depot and Lowes. Their POS systems have a text base interface and they get you out quickly.

Before anyone young "tech" guru starts yapping about the processor and how outdated DOS is. I'm a retired assembly language programmer. DOS is a fine small operating system. Fast and lightweight. What's that? No multi-tasking? No, a smart programmer can make DOS multi-task, we did it all the time back in the day.

Yay for the POS. The three shoppers will get through the lines faster.

What I always hated were the big ugly obnoxious Clearance banners hanging down from the ceilings everywhere. Looks like a Doller General Store from way outside of the mall entrance.

Nothing says classy like those ugly Clearance signs. It brings in the bargain basement shoppers and nothing else. No profit is made and makes the stores look like garbage. There is a way to display clearance merchandise. Not like it is all you have.

Sears Merchandise managers just never seem to move with the times. Sure people want a bargain but they didn’t come to a mall for cheap. They came for a shopping experience. The pretty, exciting...the glam. Not the cheap ugly Clearance banners.

Eddie never understood that. But yeah, put in your POS to ring up the cheap Clearance Chinese crap.

I’m sure they will order more banners to go along with the new registers.

The pos needed to be replaced about 10 years ago along with 30 years of deferred stuff that the stores really needed like new flooring, shelves, fixing the leaky roofs, repairing the bathrooms etc. A new pos will not save us. Imagine if the stores actually shined like targets stores with pricing to match. They get it and walmart gets it. U have to invest in stores to make it work. Eddie thought not and was greedy buying back stock and loosing what customer base we had.

How can POS be a bottleneck of no one is buying anything?

So true. No one wants to shop at Sears. It's like going to the nearest land fill and hoping to find something new, still in the package, with a price-reduction label.

Why would any savvy consumer, (they're all savvy), want to buy cheap Chinese-manufactured junk from a Store that can't even have store staff readily available to buy the cheap-quality merchandise?

Sears = Cheap crap, few if any available store employees, and a 1950's feel in the 2017 era. Give it up today, Eddie, and turn the stores into bait shops. ( Oh, wait a minute, they are already bait shops ).

Actually, as I said in another post, the POS is easily the biggest bottleneck in stores. In glad they're finally fixing. That said, I still believe sears has some other issues to fix as well.

Please I hope this is true! We really need a new POS system at Kmart. It absolutely bogs down transactions when the systems constantly freeze and don't work properly!! One of the many reasons we have so few customers is that a lot of people have been turned off by the checkout process to name one reason. A new seemless POS would go a long way towards helping the checkout process! I'm sure we won't get a new system, but it would be nice! I have said this many times , but I can only do so much with the limited broken tools I'm given.

Billion what? Lol suprise toys or flannel pajamas? Sears needs to keep any value left to payback Edward for his loans in bankruptcy. Since we apparently have someone who knows something tell us what is Sears doing to stay relevant in a time it's lost all relevance? Baby boomers are passing on and the new money makers want nothing to do with this thing.

SHLD still has several billion worth of unlocked value. It will not go BK this year or next.

Be careful trying to catch that falling knife.

Short sellers, in part, help the market accurately price securities. Doesn't make them bad people if they look at a fact set and conclude that Eddie is a dope and SHLD is dead.

And the short sellers just got home from work, settled in to the couch in moms basement, and started posting here like crazy in a desperate attempt to bury these threads.

Hope mom has your dinner ready upstairs soon...
