Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

No rhyme or reason to current Cisco layoffs

Well I am over 45 and had over 20 years with Cisco and just found out I am being layed off. There was plenty of work in my group but that did not seem to matter. The product I supported is in high demand. Cisco is not the “best place to work” that it use to be. They have no loyalty to the people that helped make them great. I am so disappointed in the new direction the companies is going.

Truly sorry about your situation, @OgpGNO8-1Cpjs. This is what is especially maddening about the ongoing layoffs. There is no rhyme or reason to them. There are people who are obvious dead weight in the company, yet they remain untouched. In the meantime, long-term, experienced employees working on profitable projects are being shown the door. Genius strategy, simply genius...

I feel for ppl who work faithfully, have great work ethics and are dumped with no explanation and no regard as to why. Walked out at end of day, on a Friday and asked for your badge. Left with little dignity, as you are embarrassed by security standing watching you pack your personal items, then walking you out! Everyone wonders what you did to be treated like that. They wouldn't want you to steal any staplers, pencils, or note pads!!!!!

Yes, because they pay the newbies much less. The fresh out of college bee stung look. You've probably topped out on your pay scale... I saw AMAT do the same thing when I was there. Thank god immleaving the "Rat Race"! Been here for 31 yrs and heading upstream to go home! Nor cal here I come.

No need to advise the potential hires

  1. smart engineers wont come anywhere near csco. if they do, its only because they are being wooed, and they also have an exit strategy.

  2. people who get hired through village connections, will remain in csco until, they are laid off..

I think this is a self correcting strategy, for long term.

win-win for all : Loyal people who got LR'd are happy to see that no new hire can match their work/productivity or loyalty. Csco is happy that the politicians are bleeding each other out slowly.

HR has less work with people-deal :)

This's tell anyone who read this and still working in Cisco: Don't get comfortable and learn from others experience, you can't build a career path here. Stay max for 3-4 years then move out with your experience to another company, if you ignore this advice you'll end-up out after you burned your self and your health!!!

How else are we going to pay for the CFO's raise? The Bay Area can get rather expensive, you can't expect the ELT to survive on a mere $10 million/year.

The Broadsoft buy will trigger more layoffs....but it will take another 6+ months to determine how many and when.

Layoff window for US extends through November 23. Spreading it over multiple fiscal and calendar months reduces reporting requirements.

Very sorry to hear about you being let go. Anyone know how much longer this LR will last? Seems like everyone that was let go was so Cisco could buy Broadsoft.
