Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

We are loosing good people to competitors

GE will never learn it's lessons. Everyone of the GE businesses go through normal up and down business cycles. One business is built to last. That is called GE aviation. Why, because military spending is up. I remember a business GE used to own called KAPL (look it up, cost plus GOCO). Engineers used to move from GE power to KAPL when times got tough in commercial power. Why was that important it preserved GE talent in an area. That cycle is now happening for Power ..down cycle is here. GE has no choice but to let the people in Power because it acquired a white elephant named Alstom. They have too much overhead for the factory backlog. The problem is all those good white collar experienced people are going to the competition to find a job. This process is going to hurt GE power in the long run. The GE portfolio as a whole is not built for up and down cycles. There are not offsetting businesses to pick up the slack like the days of old. There is no GE capital with huge knobs to turn to make up the financial misses. Hey, emperor has no cloths ! Jeff created a damn mess for John to pick up the pieces. Sorry but Jeff and his round table of stock option buddies have put John in a nasty position cut the crap out of every division including corporate, cut the dividend. He needs to look to buy offsetting businesses or sell off all the parts...break it up.

Well said, @PH0bouh-6oin.

if you don't sign the severance you still get 2 weeks pay and 2 months health insurance, thats what I did. Otherwise you can't do a class action lawsuit down the line

You have to agree to the GE terms to get severance. If you don't you get nada. Read the fine print before you sign...most people don't really have a choice.

They cut my job and let the program kid boss hire buddies with no industry experience. And then wouldn't give me my severance which they first offered with the layoff notice. It was a sleazy move. I used to think it was a great place to work but now that I have moved on I realized how back stabbing a place it is.

GE is not one person. The leadership has failed and gotten rewarded for it. They tell us to not be afraid to fail. But difference is we are not rewarded if we do with money execs get that most people would be set for life with. I am also concerned about retaining talent. We employees invest are life into our jobs but i realize that the world is driven by power and money. The average employee should give up on loyalty and concentrate on themselves. We have the opportunity to leave at any time but realize its the same at many companies. Also it effects the average employee greatly because we have families that need a regular paycheck. Wake up GE and see that making a profit is not easy so don't look for those easy money opportunities.

I agree with everything you said here, except that Flannery was "all-in" on the Alstom deal, and was a key player in it. He has blood on his hands too!
