Bass Pro Ruined the IT Tech Services Trip

Such BS. Our IT teams have been planning this trip for a while....just a day or 2 for a team that is spread out across the country to meet each other in person, mingle in the great outdoors which is supposed to be the spirit of the new company. Then have a day or 2 at corporate attending tech seminars with Microsoft and other vendors.

Then F^%$ing Bass Pro comes along and decides to take that week from us so they can come and do a meet and greet. This is what we were told by IT leadership....then again they could be lying.

I get it they are in charge. But moral is already at a low, people in IT as well are worried, Bass Pro hasn't said a damn thing since the day of the buyout...it's ridiculous.

Right from the outset Bass Pro has shown cabelas IT that they only care about money and themselves. They are only using us and our resources as much as possible to make sure the systems are integrated smoothly and then once this is all over many of us will be let go. A case of use us for all we are worth and know we are trying because we are scared of losing our jobs...then as a reward give us some BS couple weeks severance and send us on our way...or find a way not to give us that as well.

Your Cabelas managers like the IT ones should scare you especially when they are talking about we should look into other options for work. Don't believe them when they say they don't have a clue what's going on, because they do.

Maybe Bass Pro's "old technology" is what kept their profits in the black and kept them from going bankrupt and getting bought out. These two companies have approximately the same number of brick-and-mortar stores, but Cabela's has three times more people that Bass Pro has to operate them.

have your run books in order to turn over, those should have been created to pass PBR, lol...no warm & fuzzy meet & greet necessary to decom CAB IT, our managers are puppets on strings now only trying to save themselves for a while longer, won't be needed once the CAB data is ported over...you should be getting a clue your job is gone when your asked how to show how to start, monitor, and stop your apps/servers.

I think post like these are more about utter frustration. Bass Pro has said nothing to us here at Cabelas. I'm sure they are talking to higher up managers but then that's where we start losing trust in out managers because we know they are hiding something and are lying blatantly to our faces.

There has been no communication ...not even a hey guys how's it going?

Your missing the point....its not that trips like this shouldn't happen, it's the losing team doesn't get to go. Did it occur to you that BP is busy trying to integrate these two companies...they are not thinking about flying in all these people to hunt and attend Microsoft seminars. Why would they, they don't care about developing theses people...they have their own.

The original post said " Bass Pro comes along and decides to take that week from us so they can come and do a meet and greet." not that the managers got to go.

A lot of people here that must work at a gas station or are a Wal-Mart greeter, makes sense with the idiots in most the comments...uneducated minimum wage workers. Many companies have trips like this for their professionals who are responsible for their technology infrastructure. Without them working around the clock the company wouldn't run....server goes down...store can't make revenue...who do they call first?

The biggest part is getting screwed because according to one poster the managers took the trip.

Awww...Hand this guy a box of Kleenex. The 'booze fest' is over for the peons, get over yourself. Good grief no wonder why Cabela's had to sell. A bunch of self entitled whiny babies.

You are talking about a "perk."

Company sold. You are on the losing side of the acquisition. Perk gone. Simple as that.

In all honesty you should be grateful you still have a job. And yes, companies are there to make money. Companies are not there to appease their employees. Brick-and-mortar stores no longer can afford to let their employees b* and mingle on their expense. If you want to go pay for it yourself.

Why would BPS pay employees to go mingle and meet their peers when they are just a few weeks into a major purchase? My guess is that they figure there way more important things to be focusing on like merging systems, data, inventory, etc. Seems like canceling the trip and having people actually work is a smart business decision.

This is a line in the sand for everyone - for those that think or act like they are superior or expect the company that bought us to simply look at us as though we are the holy grail - not going to happen, period. Good or bad - either adapt or plan on moving on, period. BP bought us.

It also seems like people think that their managers are privy to more information and are immune to losing their jobs. The managers are on the chopping block just like everyone else! Being a manager does nothing for job security! Bass pro has plenty of its own managers.

Some of the employees who thought they were better than others are in for a shock. Step down from the pedestal and realize everyone is replaceable.

Cabela's folks need to get off their pedestals and realize that it is done, Cabela's is no more. Don't think you are giving Bass Pro the credit they deserve...they just purchased you.

Yeah many companies do that to encourage team building, just not Cabela's! Trust me I spent many years st corporate. Us lowly worker bees were encouraged to mingle with other worker bees. We weren't allowed to rub elbows with upper management!

He/She has a right to be upset, apparently they took the place for themselves and just didn't invite the actual IT people that have been doing all the integration work. It's just the higher ups going to schmooze while the actual hard workers get slapped in the face and work their asses off hoping to whatever that they keep their jobs or hope their managers aren't hiding things from them.

Also for many people saying they don't deserve to mingle...many companies do these things to encourage team cohesion especially across teams that are spread across the US and Canada. Just because your little job at the gas station doesn't do this doesn't mean others don't or shouldnt.

These guys and gals got screwed imo.

Yeah that s---s....but you have to remember that BP now owns Cabela's. So whatever you had planned as a Cabela's employee, is out the window and BP is calling the shots!

"Then F^%$ing Bass Pro comes along and decides to take that week from us so they can come and do a meet and greet. "

What world are you living in? Why would BP pay you to hang out and "mingle in the outdoors" when they are planning elimination of your team? I think they consider a meet and greet by them to be much more important than you hunting on the company's dime. It seems logical to me.

Maybe not fair, but logical.

Agreed.

Here is what I have heard from my husband and his friends who work in IT at the corp office and in another office.

Bass Pro is running on some ancient technology as well. It is horrible to work with. They expect cabelas IT to take a 10 year step backwards and use their systems. Their IT security is a joke because they dont have any, all they need is one good hack.

They won't use cloud technology because the one person that runs things in their IT is scared of it and doesnt understand it so they are holding onto some ancient tech.

Bass Pro is a complete 100 steps backwards when it comes to technology.
