Marathon's Eight Key Attributes

Paragraph 3 of Marathon’s press release dated June 30, 2011, announcing the company unveiling of a new logo states: “The process for creating a new logo began in February with an employee survey. Results of the feedback emphasized eight key attributes of the Company: focused, energetic, innovative, nimble, socially responsible, ethical, driven and global. The logo was designed based on these key descriptors.”

Can anyone honestly say the referenced attributes are currently reflective of Marathon?!

One definition of the word “attribute” is: a quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or inherent part of someone or something.

“Ethical” hasn’t been a part of the Marathon equation for years!

Someone, please explain to me how the other seven attributes apply to Marathon. Also, explain how, in light of the company’s shady business practices and it’s executive, management and HR teams’ inequitable treatment of employees, these attributes are truly reflective of the Marathon we know and love today!

“Explain this to me like I’m a four-year-old. Okay?”

(Quote above borrowed from Denzel Washington’s character, Joe Miller, in the movie, Philadelphia.)
