Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

Future of F5

Leaked plans for large amount of layoffs coming next year. CEO changing the focus of the company into different technology because the cloud and automation are the future, so there is no point in staying in our current tech stack. Those customers arent worth much to us anyways, the future of profits is in hip, diverse, thinker companies who dream-to-release and thinkergize their products. These guys will be flush with massive investor monies for the foreseeable future, and F5 needs to shift to that focus. It may be a 'hard choice' but the old school basic network field is dead. Companies who support networks are dead. They are not hip, they are not future proof, they are not cloud-think.

Most of the people in this company are stuck in the old style of think. Where tuning a tcp stack is important. It's not. Where keeping communication reliable and fast is important. It's not.

The future is here folks, if you can't adapt to the current-future of startup money, cloud, think-product, then find a new field. You will have to starting next year.

Good luck with the transition to the cloud and the new start up model. It isn't going to happen for a legacy company like F5. By the time this company realized that the market was moving on and hired a new CEO to make the transition the party was over. The only future for F5 is to protect its based and manage the downturn. That means annual layoffs and lots of culling in between. F5 was slow to move to virtualization, and slower to move to containers. Customers have already chosen their vendors for the new model. The move to micro-services and containers has been going on for years. The startups have already gotten established. Enjoy the ride down and trying to maintain the legacy if you still work at F5. It's time to learn new skill and move on if you are young enough.

Book a few hundred more gone. You complained about overpaid people but execs got multi million bonuses the same month they lay off hundreds more dead wood. This is the future, the 1% is smarter than you!

Oh, yeah, there's much more "dead wood" to cut in the upcoming year.

Nonsense, lies.

In order to continue being a "growth" company, F5 needs to expand consumption models and pure-software plays in the cloud, but traditional ADC and hardware are not going anywhere.

"Old F5" had built up a culture where "nobody ever gets fired" and some people were taking advantage of this. Most layoffs were "dead wood" and the few good people who got hit were way overpaid. Lots of old F5ers are upset because new upper management has started running things like business again instead of "welfare for engineers".
