With everything going on with GE right now, anybody else afraid somebody at the top will have a knee-jerk reaction and try to solve the issue with a sudden round of layoffs? I'm not talking about the ongoing cuts we've been having, but something on a significantly larger scale. I hope I am worrying for nothing, but the thought is certainly keeping me up...

The strongest survive ho, ho, ho ha, ha,ha,he,he he. How naive. This all about location and consolidation after acquisition So Popeye if your in the wrong location or doing a job which others can do you may find the door open to the big wide world.
The only reason I didn’t provide names on this site is because it violates the rules of the site. But that doesn’t mean I’m not talking to corporate HR and letting them know detailed examples and names of those in the buddy system. It has worked for many years because this group has the ear of management. They are taking advantage of disconnected managers and it is simply not ethical or good for GE.
@PIDooOu-me I too know exactly the "Greenville" good old buddy boy system. I can provide, say, a pair of initials to prove it. We are forbidden to speak names on this site but first and last initials and you can go into the GAL and find for yourself.

Copy and paste like! Get resumes out there. Your behind the 8 ball if you have not started a new job hunt. Careers are the things of the past with this company!

So there is a Greenville buddies gang going around which everyone knows about and management don't do anything about it or they are part of it? How then can anyone ask why GE is failing?
I wish GE would go overseas and stay. I'm tired of General Electric and want them out of The United States! Especially any product made by GE. This would be awesome news!!!! I will never buy any GE product EVER again.
Get resumes ready it’s all going over seas
@PIDooOu-vcp, The Greenville "Buddies" have been onsite for many years are are a very tight network of friends that always protect each other from any negative management decision. They include technical leaders, managers, and hourly personnel. Employees outside their "Buddy Group" are sacrificed regardless of work ethic and contribution. This is a powerful group as they have the ear of higher level decision makers. If you work in Greenville, you know exactly who these people are.
@PIDooOu-dtw, who are the Greenville "Buddies" you're speaking about? Just curious. In Windsor, the lunch room has stopped catering for GE because they haven't paid their bills in a long time. That's a really bad sign. I heard rumors that GE was going to cut severance to a flat 4 wks. Of course I imagine they'd only do that after the execs are cut and take away their year severence.
Pull yourself together and put on a brave front. It's not the end of the world if you're laid off. It might open up other opportunities.
Something is definitely about to be announced. The Greenville good-old-boy "buddies" have been secretly meeting for weeks trying to decide how to protect their buddies from something. I'm not sure what it is but if you ain't in their little click your days are probably numbered. I just hope it impacts some of those in the damn buddy system.
The strongest survive? That is so insensitive. They are laying off the highest paid highest performers at GE right now. It’s the ones who managed to do nothing and stay off the radar that are being kept...going to be tough for those people who stay because they are the typical underperformers. Everyone should be worried. No one is safe.
I feel this too. There is a lot of cloak and dagger activity going on, and it feels like we're on the verge of a major -- and double plus ungoood -- announcement. Our manager and GM are trying very hard to keep the confidence game going, but the cracks are glaring. (In in Greenville)
The only person falling apart is you so you'll be the first to go. The strongest survive the weak wither.
