The future of CSCO layoffs: Resign or you'll be terminated

This happened to a friend of mine here in India. He was with Tech Mahindra. HR harassed the dude to tender his resignation letter within 24 hours or he would be terminated. That's cold but we are not far off from such scenario here at CSCO. No severance, no COBRA, no 60 days pay-in-lieu, etc.

This is illegal here in the States.

So is age discrimination, but with every potential employer doing a background check you'll never be employed again if you pursue a legitimate lawsuit against a former employer.

I would take termination. The you can collect unemployment insurance. If you resign you can't.

It happened once to one of my officemates in San Jose. He was given a few minutes to pack his personal items and walked out by his manager and HR. He said he had posted something on the web that HR were not too happy. Later the manager was let go and it was also a surprise to the manager.
